Carnivals & Interschool Sport and House news

Term 3 has commenced with a full schedule of interschool sports on our calendar.  Please find set out below a few important reminders for Interschool Sport:

  1. Check Compass regularly for information about team sign-ups.
  2. Please ensure payment and consent is provided by the due date. Students are unable to attend the event if we do not have this.
  3. If students decide to pull out of the event before the day, they MUST let either the teacher coaching the team OR Miss Prosenak know ASAP so that we can find another student as a replacement. If not, the team may not have enough players and be unable to go.

I would like to acknowledge the strong performance from Nate Uecker who placed 6th in the State. Nate also competed for Koonung in the All Schools Cross Country on 22-23 July and qualified for the Victorian State Team, amongst a lot of private schools! He will head to the national championships at the end of August. We are so proud of your achievements and wish you the best of luck in the national competition.

Congratulations to the Year 7 Boys Soccer team and coach Mr. Peter Hodkinson who came second in the EMR competition last Friday 28 July.

Brave Koonung Year 7 Soccer Team Faces Football Academy School

After blitzing the first round, the Year 7 boys soccer team faced a much tougher day against the winners of all the regional tournaments. The boys were quietly confident though (in some cases not so quietly) and attacked the first game against Vermont High School with energy and vigour. Thomas Westein’s brace saw the Koonung boys 3-1 winners and moving into the next game, the team was full of confidence. The following game against Ringwood was a much closer affair with the boys fighting hard for a one goal lead and managing to hang onto it as Ringwood unluckily missed an open goal. The boys took on the final team with poise and ended up topping the group with a final booked in with football academy school, Rowville High. The boys fought the entire game but could not match the Rowville team who have players that train at school three times a week and after school three days more. Although this game didn’t go Koonung FCs way the boys worked hard until the end, led by their indomitable captain Gabriel Patino-Portela who crushed Rowville in the speech making department when receiving the second-place pennant at the end of the day. I’m very proud of the team and the Koonung boys showed themselves to be not just excellent footballers but also sportsmen and gentlemen. Player of the day can only go to the unbeatable Minato Mino who, as the team’s central defensive midfielder, was everywhere and consistently disrupted everything the opposition could throw at him. I look forward to seeing what the 2024 Year 8 soccer team will do next year.
