Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends of Nazareth College

It is wonderful to finally have a date for all students and staff to return to face-to-face teaching and learning.  Although the transition will be gradual, and on two different dates, this certainly is uplifting.

From a College Community perspective, we cannot be complacent and we need to ensure that our school environment is maintained as a safe and secure place for all to gather and learn.

The College has a thorough cleaning plan, with disinfecting and sanitiser stations.  Classroom desks will be wiped clean at the beginning of each period.  Handwashing and general hygiene requirements will continue to be practised.

On a practical note, as at Tuesday 9 June 2020 the school buses will recommence.  I ask parents of Year 11 and Year 12 students who currently utilise the College bus service, to please seek alternative transport for their children until 9 June.  The rationale behind this decision is that it only affects thirteen (13) students and the cost of providing buses is significant for such a small number.  Public Transport Victoria (PTV) has a Journey Planner on their website that allows you to enter a start point and destination.  If you enter Waverley Gardens Shopping Centre as your destination and your nearest bus stop as your start point PTV will suggest a public transport route to the College.

On a positive note, I take this opportunity to thank each person in our parent community for the manner in which we have worked collaboratively in this pandemic period.  Together, parents, staff and students have gained so much.  Together, we have upskilled ourselves and have also readjusted our lives and, in some instances, family values, to ensure that we are better off than we were prior to this period.

I was privileged to see a video clip at this week’s Staff Briefing.  It encapsulates all the positives that we can draw from this COVID-19 lockdown experience.  I encourage you all to view it, together with other members of your family, as it is so inspiring and draws out so many positives.
