A very happy Book Week to you all!

Our community enjoyed getting into the spirit of celebrating our most treasured books. From the winners of the Kingswood writing competition attending the Prep to 12 Kingston Network Writing Festival to our very fun Dress Up Day, there has been something for everyone.

Thank you to all our families for supporting the children with costumes and attending school and network events. Your input does not go unnoticed. I would also like to thank our staff for taking the time to celebrate Book Week during our very busy concert season. The more we celebrate reading as a school the more our students will prioritise cherished reading time.

Also a huge congratulations to our Specialist PLC for winning the Student Representative Council vote as best dressed! There was very stiff competition for first place.

A huge congratulations to the following students who represented Kingswood Primary at the Kingston Writers Festival:

Prep- Grace

Year 1- Gisela

Year 2- Christopher

Year 3- Aston

Year 4- Zara

Year 5- Aurelia

Year 6- Paxton

These very capable writers had the opportunity to listen to Keynote speaker - Meredith Costain, published author of three popular Ella Diaries and Olivia’s Secret Scribbles series. This was followed by participating in year level Writer’s Workshops with students from other network schools to create a narrative, which was shared at the end of the event.

I was extremely proud of our students and was very impressed by the way they demonstrated our school values of being inspired and engaged throughout this wonderful opportunity.

Here are some action shots from the event:

Kingswood Reading Challenge

I am very pleased to announce that across Prep to year 6 over 1800 books have already been read.  At the time of writing the classes who had read the most books so far were:

Prep: Prep P (150 books)

Year 1: 1H (148 books)

Year 2: 2D (153 books)

Year 3: 3D (140 books)

Year 4: 4S (94 books)

Year 5: 5S (29 books)

Year 6: 6S (95 books)

There are so many students reading widely across the school. Some voracious readers are: An Bao in Prep E, Deetya in 6B, Jiya in 3S, Logan in 1S, Naomi in 2D, Varad in 1H and Zoe in 2C. Keep up the amazing effort!

Calling all budding artists! Yearbook Cover Competition entries due September 13th.

A message from our Yearbook Committee:

Here are some key things to consider if you would like to enter the competition. As an artist, you will need to think about what images capture Kingswood Primary School for 2019.

For example, what special events have happened, specialist lessons, Habits of Mind, school slogans, class events and generally what makes Kingswood a great school.

  • You must create your design on an A4 piece of paper using a portrait layout.
  • You need to complete it by colouring with pencils and textas.

Entries are due to the office by week 9, Friday the 13th September. The SRC will consider the entries and announce the winners at the final assembly for Term 3.

This information will be sent out via Compass too.

Thanks and happy designing!
