Festival umění
As a Year 1 student, the Festival of the Arts was a whole new experience for me. It was a time when you could truly express and show everyone your talent in drama, art or music. All the workshops were interesting and I saw how all the people, who had signed up for it were happy to be there and truly enjoyed themselves. This two-day festival allowed the Year 1s, 2s, and 3s to show their hidden talents.
I took the drama workshop for improvisation and I truly had fun. At first, it was awkward and barely anyone wanted to volunteer to practice exercises, but after getting to know others, from different years, it felt more like a community than a school, which is something
I’ve never experienced in other schools I have attended before. All the performances at the very end were wonderful and I can’t wait for next year’s Festival of the Arts.

Jsem studentkou 1. ročníku, a proto pro mne byl Festival umění zcela novou zkušeností. Během festivalu mohl každý vyjádřit svůj talent v oblasti dramatické výchovy, umění nebo hudby. Všechny kurzy byly zajímavé a viděla jsem, jak byli všichni přihlášení studenti rádi, že se účastní a opravdu si to užívali. Tato dvoudenní akce umožnila žákům 1., 2. a 3. ročníku ukázat jejich skryté nadání.
Vybrala jsem si divadelní workshop zaměřený na improvizaci a velmi dobře jsem se bavila. Zpočátku to bylo nesmělé a málokdo se chtěl dobrovolně předvést, ale poté, co jsem se seznámila s ostatními z jiných ročníků, jsme se cítili spíše jako komunita než škola, což je něco, co jsem v jiných školách nikdy předtím nezažila. Všechna představení prezentovaná na konci festivalu byla báječná a nemohu se dočkat dalšího Festivalu umění v příštím školním roce.

The GSA Initiative/
Iniciativa GSA
The Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) was established this year as part of The English College in Prague’s (ECP) ongoing movement towards acceptance and inclusiveness. During the GSA’s weekly meetings, issues regarding LGBTQ+ rights are brought up and solutions are discussed and created. The team also organises various events, which have brought awareness to the student body and opened important conversations amongst students and staff surrounding the LGBTQ+ community.
Our first goal was to make the annual Graduation Ball for this year’s Year 5 group as inclusive as possible. For years this event has been heteronormative, this generated many complaints. Year 5s gathered together in the first few meetings of the GSA to discuss the Graduation Ball and come up with effective solutions for each problem that might arise. After a thorough discussion, they implemented distinct solutions and made the annual Graduation Ball an experience that everyone can enjoy comfortably.
The first very successful event was a cake sale featuring many impressive LGBTQ+ themed baked goods. Contributors worked hard at home to bake their favorite sweet treats to sell to students and staff and promote the acceptance of love in all its forms. These included a rainbow layered cake, a cake with the transgender flag, and rainbow cupcakes. We raised a staggering amount of money for Amnesty International, a non-governmental organisation focusing on human rights.
An annual sale of rainbow pins has also been organised by the GSA. The sale lasts a week and is always very successful. The pins are a sign of the wearer’s support, inclusion, and tolerance to all members of the LGBTQ+ community. Volunteers at the booth were ready to explain the cause to any skeptical onlookers and engaged in many fruitful discussions and debates.
Another event held and organised by the GSA was the movie night screening of the LGBTQ+ film Love, Simon, which normalises LGBTQ+ relationships in teens. During the lively gathering, students were able to meet and socialise with peers whom they may not have otherwise met. These events not only foster a more caring and understanding environment, but also serve as a social tool to connect students from all year groups of the English College in Prague and overall build a stronger, more cohesive community.
The Gay-Straight Alliance strives to include people of all sexualities, genders, and backgrounds as allies of the LGBTQ+ community. Our team started small, with only one person and the gracious Ms. Baxter, but has now grown to more than 5 regularly-attending members. We hope to grow even more next year and build a better, more inclusive English College in Prague for everyone. Though everyone may not agree on LGBTQ+ topics, we hope to make those who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community feel welcomed, accepted, and comfortable in the College.

Iniciativa Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) byla založena v letošním školním roce jako součást hnutí Anglického gymnázia podporujícího přijetí a inkluzi. Během schůzek aliance GSA, které probíhaly každý týden, jsme diskutovali otázky týkající se práv skupiny LGBTQ + a snažili se hledat řešení. Náš tým také zorganizoval různé akce, které zvyšují povědomí o této problematice mezi studenty a otevírají důležité rozhovory na dané téma mezi studenty a učiteli.
Naším prvním cílem bylo, aby byl maturitní ples pro letošní 5. ročník co nejvíce inkluzivní. Již léta byla tato akce heteronormativní, což vyvolalo mnoho stížností. Studenti 5. ročníku se zúčastnili prvních setkání GSA, aby projednali maturitní ples a přijali účinná řešení pro každý problém, který by mohl vzniknout. Po důkladné diskusi zavedli jasná opatření, aby si mohl každý užít výroční maturitní ples komfortně.
První velmi úspěšnou akcí byl prodej sladkých dobrot s mnoha druhy tématických sladkostí pro dobročinné účely. Pořadatelé doma tvrdě pracovali na tom, aby upekli své oblíbené sladké pochoutky k prodeji studentům a zaměstnancům v rámci podpory přijetí lásky ve všech jejích formách. Součástí byl i velký duhový dort, dort s transgenderovou vlajkou a duhové košíčky. Pro nevládní organizaci Amnesty International, která se zaměřuje na lidská práva, jsme vybrali zajímavou finanční částku.
Aliance GSA také uspořádala výroční prodej duhových odznaků. Prodej trval týden a jako vždy byl velmi úspěšný. Odznaky jsou znamením podpory, začlenění a tolerance nositele ke všem členům komunity LGBTQ+. Dobrovolníci rádi vysvětlovali své cíle všem skeptickým divákům a zapojili se do mnoha plodných diskusí.
Další akcí pořádanou aliancí GSA byl filmový večer s promítáním filmu na LGBTQ+ téma Love, Simon, který normalizuje vztahy LGBTQ+ u náctiletých. Během této akce se studenti mohli setkat s vrstevníky, s nimiž by se jinak nepotkali. Takové události nejenže podporují více pečující a chápající prostředí, ale slouží i jako sociální nástroj k propojení studentů z různých ročníků ECP a celkově budují silnější a družnější komunitu.
Aliance GSA usiluje o začlenění lidí všech sexuálních orientací, pohlaví a vztahů jako spojenců komunity LGBTQ+. Náš tým začal v malém, pouze s jednou osobou a laskavou paní Baxter, ale nyní se rozrostl na více než 5 pravidelně se účastnících členů. Doufáme, že se příští rok rozrosteme ještě více a vybudujeme lepší a inkluzivnější školu pro všechny. Ačkoli se na tématech LGBTQ+ nemusíme všichni shodnout, doufáme, že se ti, kteří jsou součástí komunity LGBTQ+, v ECP cítí vítáni, přijati a spokojeni.

Divadelní představení
ECP's IB Theatre Production presented a play by French author Yasmina Reza God of Carnage. Two shows were performed in the Divadlo 21 theatre in May. Year 5 student Sabina Hammacheová directed the play. Well done!
Divadelní společnost ECP IB Theatre Production představila divadelní hru francouzské autorky Yasminy Rezy God of Carnage. Dvě představení byla v květnu uvedena v Divadle 21. Studentka 5. ročníku Sabina Hammacheová hru režírovala. Blahopřejeme!
Public Service Announcements/Blok veřejného vysílání
On Monday, April 1st from 12:45 to 14:15, a festival of Public Service Announcements was held at The English College in Prague in the class of 2-1 English. Eight groups of students masterfully created their insightful PSAs with eclectic intended audiences, themes, concepts, and approaches. Despite the miscellaneous successes of all of the Public Service Announcements, only a single work was truly deserving of the ‘Winner’ entitlement of 2019, according to a panel of insightful judges.
Developed, filmed, screened, edited, and produced by solely four aspiring students from the class, the project’s overarching theme was that of student stress and burning out, hence its entitlement ‘Burnout’. The prosperous pupils, Priya Ghotane, Viktor Kubicka, Eliska Jarvisova, and Anna Zarapina, all participated in the making of the outcome, and supplied the project with integral parts for its success. Filmed on the school grounds, this Public Service Announcement was dexterously edited and the filmography, after restless and meticulous analysis by experts, conveyed the students’ skill and talent.
Analysis of the PSA
After intermittent, yet excessive, annotation and assessment by visual literacy students, ‘Burnout’ was concluded to be of grand cinematic value. The laconic video, merely 50 seconds short, was filtered with dark hues and shades for atmospheric setting, inducing pathetic fallacy, and various external footage was implemented into the masterpiece. According to Anna Zarapina, portraying a struggling student, the artistic choices of her colleagues were intending to set the mood and the atmosphere.

Interviews
When interviewed by their classmates, the winners collectively credited teamwork for their spectacular end-product, despite conceding to multiple quarrels and disputes. “I am grateful for [the group's] hard work and effort insurmountably; [the PSA] would not be the same without each and every person on the team,” said Viktor Kubička.
A common inquiry arose, questioning the motifs behind the specific theme of the Public Service Announcement. “All of us being school students, we can relate to the theme on a personal level, and, thus, reflect on our experiences along the way,” explained Eliška Jarvisová.
Priya Ghotane was quick to add, “I think that a major contributing factor of our success was the integration of our personal feelings into our work.”

V pondělí 1. dubna od 12:45 do 14:15 proběhl na Anglickém gymnáziu, během výuky anglického jazyka ve třídě 2-1, festival zaměřený na Blok veřejného vzdělávání. Osm skupin studentů mistrovsky vytvořilo své bystré vzdělávací spoty s rozmanitými tématy, koncepty a přístupy. I přes úspěchy všech prezentovaných spotů, si dle rozhodnutí vnímavé poroty jen jedna práce skutečně zasloužila titul „vítěze“ roku 2019.
Hlavním tématem projektu, vytvořeného, natočeného, promítaného, upraveného a vyprodukovaného pouze čtyřmi ambiciózními studenty z této třídy, byl stres a vyhoření studentů pod názvem „Vyhoření“. Práce se chopili úspěšní žáci, Priya Ghotane, Viktor Kubička, Eliška Jarvisová a Anna Zarapina, a projektu pomohli k jeho úspěchu. Jejich spot (PSA), natočený v areálu školy, byl obratně zkomponován a filmografie, po nepokojných a důkladných analýzách odborníků, potvrdila dovednosti a talent studentů.
Analýza spotu
Poté, co studenti literatury shrnuli a ohodnotili jednotlivé spoty, přerušovaně, ale přesto důkladně, usnesli se, že dílo „Vyhoření“ má velkou filmovou hodnotu. Lakonické video, jen 50 vteřin dlouhé, bylo filtrováno tmavými odstíny pro navození atmosféry, včetně patetického klamu, a do mistrovského díla byly také implementovány různé externí záběry. Podle Anny Zarapiny, která ztvárnila studentku s problémy, měla umělecká volba jejích kolegů nastavit náladu a atmosféru.
Rozhovory
V rozhovoru se spolužáky vítězové projektu svorně přičítali úspěch svého velkolepého konečného produktu týmové práci, a to i přesto, že došlo k několika konstruktivním sporům. „Jsem nesmírně vděčný za tvrdou práci a úsilí skupiny. Finální produkt by nebyl tím čím je, kdyby kterýkoli ze členů týmu chyběl,“ řekl Viktor Kubička.
Častým dotazem bylo, co bylo motivem pro výběr daného tématu vzdělávacího spotu. „Všichni jsme studenti, můžeme se s tématem ztotožnit na osobní úrovni, a tak se zamyslet nad našimi průběžnými zkušenostmi,“ vysvětlila Eliška Jarvisová.
Priya Ghotane rychle dodala: „Domnívám se, že hlavním faktorem, který přispěl k našemu úspěchu, bylo začlenění našich osobních pocitů do naší práce.“
