Výměnný pobyt s Francií

On April 26th of 2019, students who study French at ECP went on the annual French Exchange Programme to Nantes, France. Our flight left at 15:40 to Nantes Airport, where we were picked up by our host families to spend an eventful week in Nantes.

Once we got to our newfound homes for the week, we were greeted with an extravagant French dinner with delicacies ranging from crevettes, beurre salé, and crêpes. All of the food we had was delicious and traditional. One person was hosted by a family of fisherman and had authentic fresh seafood for every meal.

The students went on a number of trips, from the beautiful city of La Rochelle, to the picturesque cities of hilly Brittany. Eating lunch near the clear seas of Normandy, viewing numerous historical monuments, and cherishing Spring in France proved to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Furthermore, after a week of exciting tourism around Nantes with our host families, we travelled to Paris for two days. There the students were overwhelmed by a packed programme, we got to visit the well-known Tour Eiffel, the Bateaux-Mouches, the Louvre, and the Musée d'Orsay.

This trip provided a unique experience to those who attended, enriching the students with the diverse culture of Nantes, France, as well as the historical city of Paris, improving their knowledge of the language through complete immersion in French. Friendships were built between the students from France, as well as the lower and upper school classes of ECP. Next year, we will definitely go again, and encourage all those who are studying French to enjoy this experience as well.

26. dubna 2019 se studenti, kteří na Anglickém gymnáziu studují francouzštinu, vydali na každoroční výměnný pobyt do francouzského města Nantes. Náš let na letiště v Nantes odstartoval v 15:40 hod. Tam si nás vyzvedly naše hostitelské rodiny, s nimiž jsme v Nantes strávili rušný týden.

Jakmile jsme dorazili do našich nových domovů, byli jsme přivítáni extravagantní francouzskou večeří s řadou delikates od krevet, beurre salé až po palačinky. Všechno jídlo, které jsme dostali, bylo vynikající a tradiční. Jeden ze studentů byl v rodině rybáře a každé jídlo, které mu bylo nabídnuto, obsahovalo autentické čerstvé mořské plody.

Studenti se vydali na řadu výletů, včetně krásného města La Rochelle či malebných městeček v bretaňských kopcích. Mezi unikátní zážitky patřil oběd v blízkosti čistého moře v Normandii, prohlídka četných historických památek a užívání si francouzského jara.

Po týdnu vzrušujícího cestování po okolí Nantes s našimi hostitelskými rodinami jsme navíc ještě jeli na dva dny do Paříže. Tam byli studenti ohromeni nabitým programem, včetně návštěvy známé Eiffelovy věže, Bateaux-Mouches, Louvru a Musée d'Orsay.

Tento výlet poskytl jedinečný zážitek všem zúčastněným, obohatil studenty o rozmanitou kulturu Nantes i historického hlavního města Paříž a vylepšil znalosti jazyka prostřednictvím úplného ponoření se do francouzštiny. Vznikla přátelství se studenty z Francie, ale i mezi studenty ECP z nižších a vyšších ročníků. Příští rok určitě pojedeme znovu a pobídneme všechny, kteří studují francouzštinu, aby si tuto zkušenost také prožili.

Berlin Trip/Výlet do Berlína

Right after the Easter holidays, a group of students taking German set off for a trip to Berlin. The four-hour train journey went by rather fast, so after unpacking at the hotel and lunch, we could enjoy a whole afternoon in the city. We started off our stay by seeing two exhibitions about the Berlin Wall, which divided Berlin into East and West from 1961 - 1989.

We continued with our museum tour the following day, when we visited the DDR-Museum about the Eastern German Republic during the Cold War. There were many authentic items from the period and even a typical East Berlin flat. In the afternoon, we visited the Olympic Stadium, originally from 1936, and were impressed by its modernity after reconstruction, especially the VIP lodge and inside area with a bar and even a chapel in the basement for competitors.

On Wednesday, we did the most unusual activity yet: we went to a graffiti workshop where we could create our own picture using stencils and spray paint. Some of the students (and staff!) discovered their inner artistic self. We were also taken on a tour of Berlin’s street art, which is truly omnipresent there. We learned about different techniques for creating street art and have a newfound respect for the creators. After lunch, we visited the Jewish memorial as well as a lesser known memorial for people of Roma nationality killed in WWII.

But our day wasn’t over yet - we went on to see the German parliament, the “Bundestag”. Our guide gave out interesting facts about the German political system, told us about Angela Merkel’s talent of imitating, and was kind enough to speak English. After the tour, we climbed up to the cupola to enjoy the beautiful view of Berlin at night.

On the last day, we visited the Nineties museum, which was an introspective of Berlin’s culture in the period of recovery from being under communist rule. In the evening, we went to a theatre where we watched a performance of La Putyka - the world-famous Czech company of modern circus artists, which we all greatly enjoyed. It was the perfect finish to our trip, as we were heading home on Friday morning. We’d like to thank Ms Baťková and Mr Pugh for accompanying us on the trip and making this wonderful experience possible, as well as Ms Kulhavá for getting us the theatre tickets.

Hned po velikonočních svátcích vyrazila skupina studentů, kteří studují německý jazyk, na výlet do Berlína. Čtyřhodinová jízda vlakem uběhla poměrně rychle, takže jakmile jsme si v hotelu vybalili a dali si oběd, mohli jsme si vychutnat celé odpoledne ve městě. Náš pobyt jsme zahájili prohlídkou dvou výstav o berlínské zdi, která v letech 1961 - 1989 rozdělovala Východní a Západní Berlín.

Následující den jsme pokračovali v prohlídce muzeí a navštívili jsme Muzeum DDR o východním Německu za studené války, kde bylo mnoho autentických předmětů z daného období a dokonce i typický byt z Východního Berlína. Odpoledne jsme si prohlédli olympijský stadion, původně z roku 1936, a byli jsme ohromeni jeho moderností po rekonstrukci, zejména VIP sekcí a vnitřním prostorem pro závodníky s barem a dokonce i kaplí v suterénu.

Ve středu na nás čekala doposud nejneobvyklejší aktivita: šli jsme na graffiti workshop, kde jsme mohli vytvořit vlastní obrázek pomocí šablon a barev ve spreji. Někteří studenti (i zaměstnanci!) objevili své vnitřní umělecké já. Také jsme se vydali na prohlídku berlínského street artu, což je styl, který je tam skutečně všudypřítomný. Dozvěděli jsme se o různých technikách tvorby pouličního umění a k tvůrcům jsme si vytvořili respekt. Po obědě jsme navštívili židovský památník a také méně známý památník pro osoby romské národnosti, které padly ve druhé světové válce.

Ale náš den ještě neskončil - pokračovali jsme prohlídkou německého parlamentu „Bundestag“. Náš průvodce nám poskytl zajímavá fakta o německém politickém systému, vyprávěl nám o talentu Angely Merkelové v napodobování a byl tak laskavý, že s námi mluvil anglicky. Po prohlídce jsme se vyšplhali do kopule, kde jsme si užili krásný výhled na noční Berlín.

Poslední den jsme navštívili Muzeum devadesátých let, které nás zavedlo do doby, kdy berlínská kultura procházela oživením po pádu komunistického režimu. Večer jsme šli do divadla na představení La Putyka - světoznámé české společnosti moderních cirkusových umělců, a velmi jsme si to užili. Bylo to perfektní zakončení našeho výletu, protože v pátek ráno jsme už zamířili domů. Rádi bychom poděkovali paní Baťkové a panu Pughovi za to, že nás na cestě doprovázeli a umožnili nám tento úžasný zážitek. Děkujeme také paní Kulhavé za to, že nám obstarala vstupenky do divadla.

Economics Trip to London/Výlet do Londýna zaměřený na ekonomii

The ECP Economics Trip to London was a truly wonderful trip. To me, it felt like being on a business trip with an intensive schedule and truly helpful activities. On the first day we went to the Bank of England in the morning. We listened to a presentation about the role of Bank of England in the macro economy. It was lovely to meet an ECP graduate, Miriam Kurtosiova, who now works at the bank and we had the opportunity to talk to her about her experiences.

In the afternoon, we had a working lunch at PriceWaterhouseCoopers where we discussed the decline of the UK casual dining market. Afterwards I had the great pleasure of speaking to the partner who led the session. What I found interesting was the role of private equity in investments and the discipline of how they assess each case and make the decision to invest capital into the business. Then we visited LSE and one ex-student of our school, Jan Kolařík, gave us a tour of UCL where he is currently studying. Jan took us to a cafe to meet some other ex-ECP students and we chatted about student life in London as well as the application process. I really enjoyed this trip and I had some great experiences.

Výlet Anglického gymnázia do Londýna byl opravdu nádherný. Byl zaměřený na ekonomii a připadal mi jako služební cesta s intenzivním programem a velmi užitečnými aktivitami. První den ráno jsme se vydali do Bank of England, kde jsme si poslechli prezentaci o roli banky v makroekonomice. Bylo skvělé setkat se s absolventkou ECP Miriam Kurtosiovou, která nyní v této bance pracuje, a pohovořit si s ní o jejích zkušenostech. Odpoledne jsme měli pracovní oběd v PriceWaterhouseCoopers, kde jsme diskutovali o úpadku britského restauračního trhu. Poté jsem měl to štěstí promluvit si s partnerem, který setkání vedl. Nejvíce mne zaujala role soukromého kapitálu v investicích a disciplína, s jakou zde posuzují jednotlivé případy a rozhodují o investování kapitálu do podnikání. Následně jsme navštívili univerzitu LSE a absolvent ECP Jan Kolařík nás také provedl univerzitou UCL, kde právě studuje. Jan nás vzal do kavárny, kde jsme se mohli setkat s dalšími bývalými studenty ECP a popovídat si o studentském životě v Londýně i o procesu podávání přihlášek. Tento výlet jsem si skutečně užil a získal jsem skvělé zkušenosti.
