Simone Crist:

Literacy Leader and Literacy Intervention

Hello and welcome back to a new school year at Holy Family. A very warm welcome to our new families too!

My name is Simone Crist. My role at Holy Family is Literacy Leader. I teach children one-on-one or in small groups to support their reading and writing skills. Literacy is a passion of mine, and I find it extremely rewarding to watch children grow in confidence and see their progression. It is very special to watch a child take on the identity of a reader and writer.

I taught in London for two and a half years before starting at Holy Family in 2000 and have never looked back! I genuinely love coming to work every day and spending time with the children, staff and families of Holy Family. I have learnt so much about this culturally diverse community and love how accepting and respectful the children are of the different backgrounds of their peers.

This holiday snap shows how I spent my holidays - reading by my pool for part of every day. I love how reading can take you to a different world that you can get lost in and on exciting adventures that you may not get the opportunity to experience in real life.

Through my role as Literacy Leader, I hope to instil a love of reading in the children at Holy Family. A morning storytime club where children of all ages can come together to read and share their love of books will be one way to help achieve this.

I hope that you have all had some time to relax with family and friends over the holidays and that you are looking forward to the new school year ahead!
