Casey Sykes

Year 1/2 Classroom Teacher

Hello Everyone,

Welcome back for 2022.

My name is Casey Sykes. I am one of the Year 1/2 teachers at Holy Family. I came into teaching later in my life; before this, I was a Personal Trainer. I moved into teaching as I wanted to focus on the younger generations and new opportunities and experiences.

I love working at Holy Family; the opportunities that I have had watching your children grow and flourish as they master new skills and challenge themselves to thrive has been both inspirational and rewarding.

I love staying active by mostly running with a little bit of pilates, cycling, and swimming in my spare time. Late last year, I decided to challenge myself and compete in a triathlon. The first-holiday photo of me is competing in a triathlon. At first, I was very nervous and did not think I would be able to finish, but the can-do attitude that I have encouraged my students with was able to get me to that finish line. So far, I have now completed two triathlons and have another three to go. Having a growth mindset of taking on new challenges to make myself better is something I pride myself in and encourage all my students to do.

The second photo is a photo of myself with my son Maximus. We were taking some time out at the tennis to watch Sam Stosur, someone I have followed and have been inspired by for some time.

I hope everyone has a great 2022, and in the words of Dr Seuss:

You’re off to great places; today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way.
