Learning, growing and celebrating together...
It was the first day of school, he did not want to wake up (the tennis had kept him up a little later than expected).
As he attempted to hold on to his fading dream, his ears were rattled by a piercing sound. ‘Wake up, it's time to go to school’.
Seriously, school, surely it's not that time already?
‘I don't want to go to school’, he stammered back.
‘Give me two reasons why you don't want to go to school’ shot back the voice again.
He mulled it over in his mind, hmm, that's easy. ‘One, I won't remember anyone's name and two, I want to stay on holidays forever’.
‘Oh, that's no reason to stay in bed, come on, you have to go to school!’ insisted that same demanding and pestering tone.
He started to think, ‘Give me two good reasons as to WHY I should go to school?’ chirped back the boy.
Without hesitation, the voice returned one more time, this time, with much more force than before ‘One, you are an adult and two, you are the SCHOOL PRINCIPAL’.
Welcome to the 2022 school year. I hope that all members of our school community enjoyed the chance to relax, recharge and enjoy the great outdoors over the summer holiday break. A special welcome to all our new families and welcome back to our returning school families. It’s wonderful to have our Sacred Heart Kew school family together, with children in classrooms, and laughter and joy filling the playgrounds once more.
I am sure that some of us felt like the 'character' above, when that alarm shattered our sleep on the first official day of the school year. I sincerely hope it wasn’t just me. At the commencement of every school year, we experience many different feelings and emotions, old or young, BIG or small, first rodeo, 'nearly last' rodeo, student, teacher, parent. Excited, nervous, worried, curious, anxious, calm or confused, are only a few of these feelings and emotions that may have been bubbling below the surface in all of us, as we slipped back on our chosen uniform, grabbed whatever we could find from the pantry, said our goodbyes to our loved ones (both the 2 and 4 legged variety), and made our way from the safety of the front door to the Sacred Heart Kew school gates.
I can confirm that after 5 school days of the year (for most of us), as we come to the end of our first week of classes for children, Sacred Heart Kew is a settled and happy place once more. Classrooms are full of happy and content children, teachers and staff are quickly getting to know their new tribe, and all our playgrounds are feeling loved and appreciated once more. I hope (and judging by the conversations I have had with some parents), that this 'happy and content' theme also applies to you, as your young ones return to their friends, learning and laughing in their school and classrooms again. We all look forward to a magnificent year of learning, growing and celebrating together at Sacred Heart Kew.
Wishing all school community members a fabulous 2022 school year and a lovely weekend.
Kind Regards,
Ed Weekes
