New beginnings

Welcome to a new school year! A special welcome to all those families of our excitable Year 7's and other new students. While the shadow of that thing which shouldn't be named, continues to cast its influence over how we do things at the College, we as the teachers and staff of St. Peter's College are making it a priority to get to know your child and understand how they might best thrive at our wonderful school - in a sense, despite any restrictions or interruptions, the most important things stay the same.

In walking around the College this week I came across a large number of Year 7 students fumbling their way through a new timetable, moving for lessons, new classmates, and a different way of doing things. What struck me is just how well the vast majority manage change - I witnessed cheery welcomes, big smiles and an attitude of "I got this". Change is rarely easy for any of us but supported by the staff at St. Peter's College and equipped with the right attitude, managing change can be one of the most valuable lessons in resilience.

My first week at St. Peter's College

My first week at St. Peter's College was fun and exhausting. Day one was chaos, Day two was really nice. I made a bunch of new friends and got my locker. I started bringing my booklist to school and organising my locker. French and Drama were my fav subjects so far (even though I got carpet burn).

I really liked Math too! In every one of my classes I have some of my friends Addy, Angelina, Eliz, Taya, Bel and Madi! Sadly Amelia and Alyssa aren't in my classes,

I remember I got really confused on Wednesday. Some of my things said Avila F and some said Avila E so I didn't know where in the world to go, lol, I ended up in Avila F which is where I was originally meant to be. Snack and lunch are really short but it's really nice to catch up with my friends and have fun. Overall I think St. Peter's College is a really good school for me and I really like it here :)

Leadership Training Day

On Tuesday our College Captains, Student Leadership Executive and House Captains came together with Mr. Sambell and Ms Hemming to participate in a leadership training day. This is an important opportunity for the student leaders to establish goals for the year ahead and to arrive at a shared vision of what it is they want to stand for this year.

Common themes that emerged from the student leaders revolved around the role they can play to influence a strong St. Peter's College culture, the importance of inclusion in everything they do and say, and their aspiration to help all students reconnect following two years of interruptions. Lofty goals we might think but I would never underestimate what this group of fantastic young people can achieve when supported and all working together.
