Clyde North Campus News

Welcome to the Campus

We have much to be thankful for, Christmas, holidays, the warmth of summer and the promise of a more settled 2022. The smiles on the faces of our Year 7 students as they navigated their way across the Piazza toward their House area presented a special energy that filled the campus with joy, hope and laughter. The shiny new school shoes will in time become somewhat batted from running, jumping, kicking footballs, or playing basketball, as Year 7 and new students join in and become more confident and connected with their new school community.

The first day of school never loses it magic

We know that over the past two years our children have not had enough opportunities to socialise appropriately for their age limiting personal and emotional development due to the constant return to remote schooling and lock downs. Knowing this, however, is empowering as we can support our children to re-engage with each other, their teachers, and their learning in a dynamic environment, one not restricted by avatars and screens, that is school.

What we also know is our children, we know what makes them laugh and cry, their strengths, struggles and personalities. Therefore, we go back to basics, listening and talking to our children about their day at school, mindful of establishing routines of healthy eating and good sleeping habits balanced with exercise, friends, family, and schoolwork.

To support our journey back to basics, we need to be deliberate in setting high standards for our children when it comes to building positive and respectful relationships with their peers, teachers, and all members of our community. To this end we focus on the ROCKS of St. Peter's College.

Respect    Organisation   Collaboration    Kindness    Safety

With the return to school, it is a timely reminder to students that the ROCKS are very much embedded in our Social Media Etiquette Guidelines Agreement, Mobile Phone Policy, and ICT policy. Any form of bullying, including using social media will not be tolerated at the College. I urge all parents especially those of Year 7 and new to the College to go through these policies and guidelines with their child, all of which can be found in the student planner.

We know that mobile phones can be a wonderful resource for entertainment and information but when used to send hurtful and even illegal content to cause harm to others, this becomes most serious and can involve the police. It is up to each of us as parents first to educate our children to use technology and social media respectfully and lawfully.

The best relationships develop in person, face to face and now that we have this opportunity to be back together, we ask our students with the support of their teachers and parents to concentrate on developing positive relationships and friendships that are Respectful, Organised, Collaborative, Kind and Safe. In this way we will have safe, supportive, and happy learning environments where all can flourish. This is the true spirit of St. Peter's College.

Thank you to Ms McArdle’s Humanities class who provided these wonderful reflections, I am only sorry I could not fit all the reflections into this edition of the Newsletter. Each wish is valuable, and we work to support all wishes coming true.

A couple of reminders as the new year begins:

  • Masks – please ensure your child has a mask before coming to school. It is very disappointing to see so many students without masks
  • Uniform update: Our uniform suppliers are experiencing supply problems creating shortages in some items. House Leaders are aware of this and ask that parents to email them outlining any issues so we can best support your child. Any questions please consult your child’s House Leader
  • Parents/guardians/caregivers are not permitted to drive onto or park within the Campus grounds for drop off or pick up
  • Parents/guardian/caregivers need to provide the office with advance notice if collecting their child early. This can be a note in the student planner or a phone call to the office. Please do not text your child to meet you without going through the office.

I wish you all a safe and productive week.
