From our Principal
Dear Parents, Students and Friends,
Welcome back to the new academic year. I offer a special welcome to new families that have joined our community for the first time in 2022.
Our school theme this year comes from the 1st Letter of Peter (1-13), “Therefore prepare your minds for action”. The theme was chosen by students and endorsed by staff to guide our work in 2022. It’s a theme that speaks to gearing up for the learning to come and acknowledges the disruptions to learning over the past two years and a collective commitment to the work ahead in making the most of the learning opportunities afforded us. It implies that we are all in this together.
I look forward to exploring the theme further throughout this year.
Our first day provided us with the opportunity to welcome 325 new Year 7 students who appear to have made a wonderful beginning to the secondary learning. May St. Peter’s College be a place where our new Year 7s, and for that matter all students, discover a fertile learning environment from which to be to inspired to reach their full potential.
Communication
Communication between St. Peter’s College and home is critical in supporting your child/ren. The fortnightly newsletter is important in giving an overview of events. Other forums for information flow include:
- The College Website: https://www2.stpeters.vic.edu.au/
- The College Facebook Page: For up to the minute information
- Operoo Notifications: Used to communicate specific information as well as the vehicle from which permissions for school events are registered and received
- SMS: used for reminders and just in time messages
- Email: used to distribute correspondence
It is important to note that the College’s e-mail policy states that: ‘St. Peter's College staff access their work emails normally between 8:00am-5:00pm and will endeavour to respond to emails within 24-48 hours. However, staff are not expected to respond in this timeframe during weekends, public holidays and term breaks’.
Who’s Who
Enclosed in this edition is a Who’s Who guide of staff including their roles. Please keep a copy for future reference. It is important for parents to know who to contact when the need arises. The following table guides and informs that process. The staff member listed here should always be the first contact point:
Issue | Staff Member/Leader |
Subject based questions or concerns | Subject teacher |
Pastoral or Well-being | Learning Advisor |
Subject Selection issues | Middle (7-10) or Senior (11-12) Curriculum Leader |
Pathways/Career Advice | Careers Counsellor (Campus) |

Current COVID Measures
I thank parents, students and staff for supporting us in the implementation of the current set of measures designed to maintain a safe working place of learning. With the current conditions as outlined by the Department of Education and our own governing authority DOSCEL we are required to continue restricting parents coming on campus as much as possible. If there is a legitimate reason for you to be on campus you must: be fully vaccinated, wearing a mask if inside (unless an exemption applies) and register on the QR code system. Thank-you in anticipation of your understanding.
Undertaking supplied RATs – it is suggested that students should get into a regular pattern of undertaking their RAT on a Monday morning and again on a Thursday morning to distribute the testing regime evenly. Any positive test result must be reported to your child’s Learning Advisor as a matter of urgency.
Masks – students must bring their own supply of masks to school
High Achieving Students
Congratulations to Trinity Lee from the graduating class of 2021 for successfully being selected to represent St. Peter's College in the TOP Arts Season of Excellence. Trinity’s artwork will be exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria from the end of March until June. Her folios will also be available for visiting students to look at for inspiration during school visits to the National Gallery of Victoria. Top Arts 2022 celebrates the outstanding abilities and the diverse concerns of our newest emerging talents and it is an absolute thrill to announce that Trinity has been successful.
All the best for the week ahead
Mr Chris Black
