From the Assistant Principals

While this may be the most unusual start to the year, I have been very proud of the way the Loreto community has risen to the challenge and started the year with grace and resilience. This was certainly evident in the Boarding House where an early disruption meant many girls started their first day at Loreto from their bedrooms in the boarding house. If anyone has shown how to be resilient, it is these girls this week. Well done and welcome to Loreto!

In my job, I have the pleasure of walking through the campus when students and teachers are in class. The start of this year meant teachers and students were both online and at school and so while there were classrooms with no students, teachers were still teaching enthusiastically delivering a Maths lesson online, while in the next class a group full of Year 7s were playing Maths games together. It was pure joy seeing hybrid learning in action. Along the way last week, there were many acts of kindness, and a few shout outs are due. One goes out to the beautiful Year 12 student who was so kind to a new student who was struggling to find her feet. She showed true compassion and allowed this student to fully experience what it means to be a Loreto girl. Another shout out to our amazing Learning Support teachers who played volleyball with a student while talking about the kookaburras who were laughing high in the Acacias gardens. It is in these moments that the value of felicity shines through. Well done to students, teachers and parents for your combined effort to start an unusual year well.

Another group of our community that has been working hard these holidays is the rowers. They have competed in many events over the holidays with some major ones coming up. We wish them all the best for the next few weeks and for the upcoming Head of the River and State Championships.

As a new member of the Loreto community, I have certainly been buoyed by the spirit that is Loreto in Week 1. I am very much looking forward to working with you all as we go through the year.
