2022 Leadership Team

Josip Loncaric

In our previous issue, we announced the new captains and leaders of our program, Hiba Karim and Octavio Montalvo, who were both given the important task of selecting their own leadership team to support their passage into the top job. This new way of doing things will set a new precedent that gives more power and ownership to the students. We hope that over time, this will help them improve their leadership skills on the field.

Our girl's captain Hiba Karim, will have an overview of the whole pitch as goalkeeper and she has selected two girls that have shared the journey with her as players that started playing soccer when they joined the Keilor Downs College Soccer School.

Amela Kadic - A dynamic and explosive winger/striker, Amela has truly grown in confidence as a person and a player that is prepared to take ownership of matches.

She had her first taste of Premier League Cup football this year and managed to score a few goals, whilst also getting a taste of senior football at her State League One club, St. Albans Saints.

Olivia Montalvo has had a more gradual journey into our senior girls squad at KDC, with the central midfielder adding an improved workrate to her vision and passing range in the middle of the park. Liv also managed to get game time in the senior girls Premier League cup squad this year, as well as being a vital member of our year 9/10 girls squad that made it to the Western Metropolitan finals this year, only to miss out on playing the competition due to the Covid lockdown.

Our boys will be led by our 2021 Sarah Lorca Medal winner, Octavio Montalvo, who will have the honour of leading our boys in his final year of education at Keilor Downs College.

Already experienced at leading our touring Spanish squad in 2020, Octavio has selected two boys that were also part of our Madrid 2020 tour to help him shape the future of our boy's program in 2022.

Explosive attacker Steven Huynh, who is also going to be in his final year of education at KDC next year, will provide vocal and physical presence in the midfield and attacking third of the pitch. Hard-working and determined, Steven has come up with many crucial goals and assists in his time at KDC and will be looking to gain senior football experience at his new club, Altona City.

Joining Octavio and Steven is defender Robbie Farquharson, who like Octavio, took the plunge to play State League senior football at Fawkner, and this experience has given him a whole new perspective on leadership and the process of becoming a senior player.

A strong and creative defender, Robbie will provide determination and grit to a young backline, and his experiences from 2021 in a physically demanding State League season will give him an edge that he will apply to his own game and inspire others around him to do the same.

We look forward to seeing our new leaders express themselves on and off the pitch in 2022.
