Student Leadership Day.

On Wednesday 16th March, we had our annual Student Leadership Day. The purpose of the Student Leadership Day was to help our student leaders strengthen their relationships with each other to form a more cohesive team while also developing skills needed to lead positive change in our community.

We were very fortunate to have representatives from Wellington Youth Council and Youth Affairs Council Victoria (YACvic) run workshops. Our student leaders enjoyed connecting with each other through team building activities run by members of the Wellington Youth Council including Nicolla, the Youth Mayor and AJ, the Deputy Youth Mayor. We were very humble to have also been gifted a “Giant Jenga” set from the Wellington Youth Council. This Jenga set has positive affirmations engraved into the Jenga pieces, and the student leaders are already thinking of ways to utilise the game with the rest of the student body. After the ice-breakers and team-building activities, students participated in an advocacy workshop facilitated by Carla and Sam from YACvic. During the workshop, our student leaders learnt what advocacy is, about the different components of advocacy and the importance of building strong relationships with stakeholders and networks to help influence positive change. Throughout the day, students asked questions and gained access to a range of resources and information that will help them to better understand student voice and agency, and their rights to be able to express their opinions freely on all matters affecting them. Students challenged themselves, stepped out of their comfort zone and showed great resilience, kindness and inclusivity throughout the day.

A big thank you goes to the VCAL students and Sal Tatterson for cooking a scrumptious morning tea and lunch for our student leaders and guests!

Monday 21st March to 25th March

Harmony Week.

Harmony Week celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

We are celebrating the week with a number of activities organised by the student leaders and supported by Wellington Council’s initiative “Wellington Ways to Wellbeing”. This initiative provides our student leaders with a framework to lead projects to promote mental wellbeing and the five simple things we can all do regularly to promote a sense of wellbeing and build our resilience.

Activities for Harmony Week will incorporate the five ways to wellbeing which are: Connect, Be Active, Keep Learning, Be Aware and Help Others.

Monday- Help Others: Casual Clothes day with Gold Coin Donation for “Dolly’s Dream.”

Tuesday- Be Active: Dodgeball in the gym during lunchtime.

Wednesday- Be Aware: Lunchtime meditation session

Thursday- Keep Learning: L2L sessions around diversity and mental health. As well as completing the harmony week survey.

Friday- Connect: Visual representation of student reflections from the harmony week survey.
