Principals message

Fitzroy Primary School on show!

Yesterday afternoon we were absolutely delighted to watch our students perform at the school concert. We were so impressed by the effort that students put into their performance on stage and extremely proud to see how confident, resilient and authentically happy they were. It was a fantastic opportunity for families and friends of the school to come together and enjoy a picnic in the grounds on a magnificent Autumn day.

We take this opportunity to thank Bryce for his hard work and congratulate him on such a special school performance that will be one to remember! We also extend our gratitude to Nelson Alexander for generously donating the popcorn machine and staff in costume.

It was also a special opportunity to temporarily farewell the Napier St building and grounds which will be handed over to the Victorian School Building Authority during the holidays. Works are expected to commence next term once the tender process has been finalised and a builder appointed.

In the coming weeks we will be looking for interested parents to join the Community Engagement and Fundraising subcommittee of School Council to help organise future school events.

School Council update

Congratulations Matt Willis for being voted into a two year parent member position on School Council. I also welcome Andrea Hennessey and Robyn Cairns (STEM/Kitchen Garden teacher) into DET staff positions. I take this opportunity to thank Tony Radosevic for nominating and for everyone across the community who put in a vote. Co-opted member positions will be announced in the coming weeks, together with subcommittees and meeting times.

Monday morning parent group

All parents are very welcome to attend a weekly parent group with Badria, our School Community Liaison officer, on Monday mornings after 9am. Now that we are without restrictions, it’s really great to see parents coming together. The group meets socially and there is also the opportunity to invite guest speakers to run sessions on topics of interest. Please contact Badria if you have any questions about the group.

Yard duty supervision

Parents and carers are reminded that students are supervised in the yard by staff between 8:45 – 9am and 3:30 – 3:45pm. Children arriving before 8:30am need to either be supervised in the yard by parents/carers, or sent to Breakfast Club. If children haven’t been collected by 3:45pm, they will be sent into the office and parents contacted. Big Childcare also offers before school care from 6:45am and after school care until 6pm.

Our school zone

Now that the Napier St building is being handed over for renovations, we only have the capacity to accept enrolments from within our school zone for 2022.

Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information about Victorian school zones.

Students residing in this zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.

The Department provides guidance through the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and the freedom to choose other schools, subject to facility limitations.

You can find more information and answers to frequently asked questions on the Department’s website under School zones
