Sport

The past week in sport brought the end of the Summer Sports season and the beginning of Winter Sports trials.

We did have a number of teams play last Saturday, however, the frustrations with the conditions of the grounds meant that most of our outdoor teams were unable to play. I am sure that the players in these teams will welcome playing winter sport when there is a greater likelihood of games going ahead regardless of conditions.

Last Saturday, our young women Basketballers traveled to the Northern Beaches and to Barker College to play their games and, across the five teams, the games were close, and the spirit of competition was positive.

Our Boys' Basketball boys teams hosted St. Augustine's, and nearly all of our teams came away with wins. These results meant that we had three teams who had very successful seasons. Our 15 Boys went through the season undefeated, as did our Firsts Boys and our 17s Boys. Congratulations to all of those players and coaches!

It has been a joy to see how all of our students have represented us during the summer season and I look forward to seeing such lovely school spirit and camaraderie on display in winter!

Presentations

Due to the frustrations experienced by our summer sport teams the relevant MICs have made decisions about end of season festivities / events. These are outlined below.

Touch Football: a Gala Day was held during the week with the chance for students to play touch together enjoyed by all.

Cricket: Mr. Stuart Collins is in the process of organising a tour of the Sydney Cricket Ground, details forthcoming.

Basketball: The Presentation Evening will be held on Wednesday, 30th March for all teams. This event will resemble the traditional format for Presentation Evenings, with awards for each team being presented. Unfortunately, we will not be able to break bread together, though hopefully next year this will again be possible. I will be in touch with more details directly.

Winter Sport Organization

Our winter sports teams have started their trials and these will continue over the next few weeks. Once teams have been finalised, the team lists will be posted on the Sports Noticeboard.

Uniforms

It would be very helpful if all students who are playing a winter sport could check if they still have a uniform for their sport and if it still fits. If anyone needs a new uniform, please speak to your relevant MIC and order any required uniforms asap, as the turnaround time from order to delivery has been significantly affected by the disruption of the regular global supply chains.

Girls' Hockey:    Ms R. Hsylop

Netball:               Ms B. Stockley

Girls' Football:  Ms S. Naumann

Boys' Football:  Ms A. Stammer

Rugby

Sadly, we have had an extremely small number of students sign up to play Rugby. I have spoken to our students to encourage those who would be willing to play Rugby to come and see me, however, if we do not have more students who are interested in playing, we may not field teams this season. A plan is being formulated to build our Rugby numbers for future seasons.

Cross Country Carnival

Our Cross Country Carnival will be held on 31st March on school grounds.

Inter-House Sports Day

On the last day of term House Sport returns to BMGS! Be prepared to witness our mighty Houses putting their all into a variety of sports and perhaps even some fun novelty events!

As always if there are any queries regarding sport, please email jquilter@bmgs.nsw.edu.au.
