Senior School

Thank you to the many parents who have worked hard over the past week to help children overcome the myriad transport issues we have been experiencing across the Blue Mountains, and also to the many students who have walked, biked and skated to School. With train lines cut by landslides, and similar issues on the Great Western Highway across the Upper Mountains, this has certainly been a trying week!

In addition to our region’s transport woes, we are also managing a slightly increased number of students, parents and staff experiencing COVID. Parents please be reminded that should your children display even the mildest cold and flu symptoms they are to remain home until they test negative and are no longer symptomatic. One of the ironies of this past two COVID-impacted years has been the fact that we have lost less days of learning due to regular cold and flu. We would very much like to continue that trend! Finally, would parents please note that should children need to go home sick during the school-day, they are required to sign out through Senior School Reception and we must have parental permission to release them. In the event of an emergency for safety reasons it is imperative that we have an accurate record of which students are on-site.

On a different note… For perhaps the first time in over a century BMGS is at risk of losing the Rugby program due to lack of student interest. Despite its long history at the School and the passion with which some of our students engage with the sport, in the recent Winter Sports Survey, too few boys in any one age category signed up. I encourage any boys in Years 7-12 who have not yet completed the Survey to urgently do so, and to speak with Mr. Quilter (Acting Head of Sport) or with Mr. Grace (Rugby MIC).
