Junior School

Welcome Back

It was wonderful to see the boys return last Tuesday for the first day of Term 3. Thank you to all boys who have returned so enthusiastically and ready to participate in our busy Junior School life this term.

A special thank you to all the boys who have been putting in extra hours practicing for the Catholic Performing Arts or training for sport.

This term is very busy one. Besides their classwork, there are several excursions, the Catholic Performing Arts Festival, Book Week dress-ups, photos, BRLA for Year 5, Year 5 Camp, and athletics carnivals. The Term 3 Calendar was emailed home last Friday. Please make note of the important dates and events in what will be an action-packed term.

Staff

Last week we welcomed  Mr Bernard Le Tessier back to resume his role as Assistant Head of Junior School and is teaching Year 6 Green on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.  Mr Luke Thompson teaches Year 6 Green on Wednesday and Friday.

We also welcomed Miss Jacqueline Castricum to the Junior School teaching team.  Ms Castricum is the Year 5 Green teacher. Mr Tony Maxfield is enjoying a period of long service leave.

I would also like to welcome pre-service teachers as follows:  Miss Sophie Moore working in 5 Blue, Miss Nadya Crawshaw in 4 Green, and Mr Ryan Arvidson in 4 Blue.  These pre-service teachers are from the University of Notre Dame Fremantle or Curtin University, they are completing their final teaching practicums.

School Photographs

Next week the boys will be getting their yearly school photos taken. On Monday, 1 August, please ensure that you send your boys to school groomed immaculately with neat hair and in their full winter uniform including blazers, ties, shirts with top button done up, grey Trinity socks and polished school shoes. If the boys have Phys-ed or Aquatics on this day they will need to bring their change of uniform in their sport’s bags. Please return the photo form, whether ordering or not, as these are all required by the photographers.

Ian MacRae Cup Champions!

On Thursday, the Trinity 6A Football Team faced Aquinas in the annual Ian MacRae Cup. Led by Captain Nash Styles and Vice Captain James Spencer, the boys got off to a great start, playing a very strong first half.

In a second half that ebbed and flowed, Aquinas was able to make fighting comeback. In a tense finish, Trinity held on for an inspirational four point win, surviving a late flourish from Aquinas with a last minute shot on goal.

A game that was truly played in the right spirit between two old foes. The real winner was the game of Australian rules on the day. Well done boys!!

Important Reminders

At the beginning of a new semester, it is timely to remind boys and parents of some procedural information.  For the safety of all our boys, drop off and pick-up should either be at the Junior School or, if you are driving through, please use the drop-off point near the round-about.

Please avoid dropping off or picking up in the staff-carpark or across the crosswalks or parking in no-standing zones.

Boys are also reminded to order lunches before school.  This can be done online for your convenience, or the boys can order in person from 8.00am.

As per the Acceptable Use Agreement signed before devices are distributed, boys are asked to come to school with their devices fully charged and to keep their chargers at home.  Some boys may need reminders about this.

Golden Heritage Club

Next week the Year 6 boys will be hosting gentlemen from the TOBA Golden Heritage Club.  These are Trinity Old Boys who graduated 50 or more years ago.  Year 6 boys will talk with them, asking prepared questions and find out more about the Trinity heritage.  It is always an honour to have these gentlemen visit with us.

Eyes on TC

On this week's episode of Eyes on TC, the boys welcome everyone back to an exciting Term 3 and talk about some of the things they got up to over the school holidays. Listen below!

Daffodil Day

When someone you love receives a cancer diagnosis you naturally want to be able to do something to help. This is how you can help!

This year, the Junior School will again be supporting Daffodil Day and for $10 a bunch, you can do your bit to support our boys and this important cause.

All orders must be placed by Friday, 19 August using the link below. No late orders will be accepted.

Collection of flowers will be on 'Daffodil Day', Thursday 26 August from the Junior School.

Please help us make a difference and support for this cause that is close to many of our hearts.

Edmund Rice Day and India Fun Run

This year our annual Edmund Rice Day celebrations in May were deferred until Friday, 19 August.  This year the India Fun Run will take place on the same day and Junior School will be participating in the Fun Run for the first time.

Early next week sponsorship forms will come home, and boys will be seeking sponsors to raise funds for the Orphanages Trinity College support in India.

And in tradition, Junior School will be responsible for the hugely popular Cake Stall.  Families are asked to donate serving size cakes and cake stall items on the day.  More information about this day of celebration and fund-raising will come out over the coming weeks.

Winter Sport

We were straight into our Winter sport’s training last week  and enjoyed a great competition against Wesley.  Well done to all the boys who put in such a great start to our fixtures.  Thanks Mr Thompson for all the organisation that goes into these events every week.

Prefects Corner

By Ethan Byrne (6W) and Kobe Jackson Peppin (6G)

What a wonderful week at school! On Monday it was the start of the second week of Term 3. It was also the first full week for the Term.

On Tuesday was a typical day of productive work. On Wednesday all the sport teams were training hard for their cup games or their tournament.

On Thursday the football A teams played in the Ian MacRae Cup where Trinity won the Cup game by only four points! The boys were also very fortunate to have the legend Ian MacRae come down to Aquinas to present the trophy to Trinity.

On Friday it was the first Mass for the Term hosted by 4W. The soccer team was lucky enough to participate in an all-day tournament. There was an Assembly at the end of the week to end it off.
