Students & school Achievements

Year 8 Technology

In year 8 food technology class, students have been learning and cooking a range of different things. These include: The 6 essential nutrients, daily requirements for an adolescent, the macro and micro nutrients and many more! We have also cooked up a range of different and delicious foods, such as: smoothie bowls, brownies, dumplings, gozleme and much more! These foods are also healthier than ones you would find in a grocery store and taste exactly the same! We have also been learning how important it is to clean your hands and stop cross contamination in the kitchen.

"Cooking this year has been especially fun! We were able to learn how to use appliances and make delicious food. Some of the food wasn’t as good as others but it was really fun to make regardless. My favourite food that we made was the Chicken Pot Sticker Dumplings. They tasted just like the ones you’d find in a restaurant. The bit that I struggled with while making them, was folding them up to look like proper dumplings.

I wasn’t sure how, so I ended up just scrunching them up as best as I could. They tasted very flavourful and tasty. Cooking them, as well as every meal we have made, has taught me to be careful and responsible in the kitchen.

Learning about hygiene in the kitchen, a healthy and balanced diet and the 6 essential nutrients, has made me think about what I have been eating and If I should be eating it.

We also had to make a website with tips on a healthy lunchbox and a recipe modification of an unhealthy food. I found this fun as now adolescents can read this website and know exactly how to stay healthy.

Overall, I had a great time doing food technology. Making the food was so fun and enjoyable I wish I could do it next term as well! Also learning about being healthy was very eye opening and helpful for not just myself, but for everyone."

MOVIE NIGHT

We are pleased to announce that on the Friday 19 August 2022 the school's SRC and Prefect bodies organised to hold a movie night and will be screening '10 Things I Hate About You' (PG) in the MPC.

We are seeking to bring back events that fostered a greater sense of community amongst students, the Movie Night will start from 4pm in the MPC and end by 6.30pm.

Students will be expected to make their own way to and from school on the night. Students can be picked up from the Princess Street gates.

During the event a sausage sizzle and some movie snacks will be made available to students for free in limited amounts, though students may spend money to purchase

Students who are attending are encouraged to bring their own seating (beanbags, cushions, picnic blankets, camp chairs etc) for their comfort during the screening.

Only current students of Canterbury Girls High School are allowed to attend this event. To ensure they are admitted to the event and food is adequately catered for, students must fill out the RSVP form sent to them via their school email.
