Soil Week Australia's School Competition

Healthy soil plays a key role in our food security, clean water, health, eco-services, and our climate.  Soil Week Australia, a Not for Profit organisation, is running a competition on healthy soil for school students.  This is a great research project for students. The story of healthy soil is a message of hope about the future and aligns with topics on sustainability and the environment.

Students can do the project in groups or individually.

The competition is free to enter.

Resources are provided for students.

There are good prizes for students and the school.

Students are encouraged to be creative - the project can be in any digital format - a poster, a performance art, a video, or an essay or poem.

The Compass News Feed has more details for students on how to enter this competition on their own.  The competition closes 25th October 2022.

Robotics Mission to Mars Program

The Victorian Space & Science Education Centre (VSSEC) is offering the chance for all Victorian government school students from Year 7 to 12 to participate in the Robotics Mission to Mars (RMTM) program. This program runs on weekends and during school holidays at VSSEC in Strathmore.

This FREE program is supported by the Department of Education's Victorian Government Challenge and Enrichment Series. It gives students a taste of robotics and geology, by enabling them to control a rover on the surface of Mars and to operate and analyse data collected from Mars, respectively.

On any given day, students will be grouped with other students from across the state, and work collaboratively, developing their social and communication skills to solve an engineering problem.

Please see the Compass News Feed for a flyer that contains information for students regarding the appropriate steps for sign-up of the program.
