Respectful Relationships News

Everyone in our community deserves to be respected, valued and treated equally. We know that changes in attitudes and behaviours can be achieved when positive attitudes, behaviours and equality are embedded in our education settings.

Respectful Relationships is about embedding a culture of respect and equality across our entire community, from our classrooms to staffrooms, sporting fields, fetes and social events. This approach leads to positive impacts on student’s academic outcomes, their mental health, classroom behaviour, and relationships between teachers and students.

Together, we can lead the way in saying yes to respect and equality, and creating genuine and lasting change so that every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

The EDSC Respectful Relationships Pledge:

"All members of our school community have a responsibility to stand up against family violence and the misuse of gender power and control. We foster relationships that are respectful, caring and fair."

Share The Dignity August Drive

Menstruating isn’t a choice, but those experiencing period poverty often have to choose between period products and other essential items just to get by. We’d rather they didn’t.

Access to period products is a right, not a privilege. But 1 in 5 Australians have been unable to afford period products at some point in their life.

That’s why East Doncaster Secondary College is collecting period products to help those in need this month, as part of Share the Dignity Australia’s Dignity Drive.

We accept all products in original packaging, including pads, tampons, maternity pads, period undies, menstrual cups and incontinence products.

We would love our EDSC School Community to get involved by donating. If you can help out please make your donations in the box at the front office.

If you would like to know more about Share the Dignity’s goal to end period poverty please go to their web page.

Wear It Purple Day

Wear it Purple Day is Friday 26 August, 2022. Wear it Purple Day is about showing LGBTIQ+ young people that they have the right to be proud of who they are.

It is about creating safe spaces in schools, universities, workplaces and public spaces to show LGBTIQ+ young people that they are seen and supported.

Last year over 750 schools, community organisations and universities held events across Australia, and through the activities of schools that recognise Wear it Purple Day, we reached an estimated 600,000 young people, seeing the respect, acceptance and inclusion that surrounds them.

EDSC will be supporting this day during our Respectful Relationships Week. Look out for more information on Compass.

RRRR Book of the Week

It's a hot summer, and life's going all right for Jackson and his family on the Mish. It's almost Christmas, school's out, and he's hanging with his mates, teasing the visiting tourists, avoiding the racist boys in town.

Just like every year, Jackson's Aunty and annoying little cousins visit from the city - but this time a mysterious boy with a troubled past comes with them…

As their friendship evolves, Jackson must confront the changing shapes of his relationships with his friends, family and community. And he must face his darkest secret - a secret he thought he'd locked away for good.

Compelling, honest and beautifully written, The Boy from the Mish is about first love, identity, and the superpower of self-belief.
