Get Ready for Book Week

It’s time to get ready for Book Week! There are many opportunities for students to get involved during Week 7 of this term.
Now is a good time for students (and staff!) to plan their Book Week costumes. Tuesday 23 August is an out of uniform day, and there will be prizes for the best literary outfits.
The Library will be decorated to fit this year’s Book Week theme, Dreaming with Eyes Open, and students can enter competitions during Book Week to win prizes.
Year 7’s will enjoy a talk by Australian author Danielle Binks on Friday 26 August. Danielle Binks’ books are available to borrow from the Library now.
Book Week, which is organised by The Children’s Book Council of Australia, is celebrated at EDSC each August.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge – One month to go!
There is only one month to go of the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge at EDSC!
Students are encouraged to keep entering their books to be eligible for prizes and a ticket to our Reading Challenge celebration.
189 readers at EDSC have now read an impressive 2,413 books.
Congratulations to the latest students to complete at least 15 books this year: Kaitlyn T of 7K, Aryan A of 8C, Aayan K of 8G, and Viana K of 8G. All students who read 15 or more books will join our end-of-year Challenge celebration and receive a certificate from the Victorian Premier.
Well done to Peter Z of 7H, Isaac C of 7G, and Nana A of 9H who each won $10 canteen vouchers for being the top EAL readers in term 2.
Well done also to Jake P of 7C and Marina G of 10C who won $10 canteen vouchers in this fortnight’s random draw, just by entering their books into the Google Form on our Challenge webpage.
This year we are counting the books Year 7 to 10 students, and all school staff, read from 31 January to 2 September.
Students can read ANY books they like (excluding children’s picture books). We are awarding lots of individual prizes to students throughout the year to acknowledge reading efforts.
