Year 7 & 8 Food Technology

Semester 2 Food Technology commenced with a new group of eager students, ready to get into the kitchen and cook up a storm.

Year 7 Food Technology started with the introduction of a unit of work called Kitchen Basics, in which students learn about kitchen hygiene and safety. Our learning focus is on use and storage of kitchen equipment and cooks’ knives, measuring ingredients to prepare basic recipes and how to safely use small appliances, stoves and ovens.

Their first production was colourful fruit skewers with a coconut yoghurt dipping sauce.

Year 8 Food Technology students started by completing a food safety revision session to refresh their knowledge of safe food handling practices. They also participated in sensory evaluation to develop their food literacy when describing the appearance, taste, texture and aroma of dishes they produce.

Their first production was an apple pastry. The students learned key skills in food production such as the rubbing in method.
