Principal's Report

From the Principal

As we complete week four of this busy term, it is an appropriate time to reflect upon the many events that engage our students in both their learning and their efforts in an array of endeavours.  Although the spectre of a significant global health crises still casts it shadow on our everyday lives, in many ways we are getting a taste of our College life on a more normal footing. Exciting, challenging, demanding and rewarding, the heartbeat of a busy school looks something like the following:

EDSC Art Week

Last week we thoroughly enjoyed our annual ‘EDSC Art Week’. Led by our hard-working Art learning domain teachers and Student Leadership Team, the week was marked by a series of events that displayed and celebrated artistic events and entertaining student participation.

The week’s events included an illustrated card and book-mark sale by our students, portrait painting in our courtyard in the lunch break and student chalk-art – all set to a soundtrack of lunchtime music organised by our student leaders.

It was great to see the level of student engagement and participation during the week, let alone the displays of artistic talent that were evident during the events conducted.

A huge note of thanks to our Art teachers and

our student leaders for their energy and drive.

Student Achievement - Senior Table Tennis EMR Results

Our Senior Boys and Girls Table Tennis Teams were in action last Friday at Kilsyth Stadium.Congratulations to our Boys Team for finishing Runners-Up on the day. Well done to Ronson, Roger, Ethan, Muha and Simon.

Congratulations to our Girls Team on winning the Competition! Well-done to Tram Nguyen (Coach) and the following players: Isabel, Sharon C, Jo-Yen and Sharon T.

We wish our girls team all the very best of luck as they progress to compete in the Girls State Finals which are held on Wednesday the 10th of August.

Intermediate Badminton EMR Results

Our Boys and Girls Intermediate Badminton Team also participated last Friday at Kilsyth Stadium.

In a tremendous effort, our Girls team won all their games and are now the Regional champions.

Well-done to our fantastic and committed coach Lenny Permana and the Girls Team;  Yee-Yuan, Kawaii, Serina, Nicole, Rain and Kishen.

We wish the team the best of luck for the State Competition on the 10th of August and will await the outcome of that competition with anticipation.

Student Leadership and upcoming worthy fundraising causes

It should be noted that we have two out of uniform days planned by our student leadership and approved by our School Council for this term:

Tuesday August 9th - Cancer Awareness Day (please wear yellow or pink).

All funds raised on this day will go to National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation. Many people in our community have been touched by cancer in some way. We would like to raise funds AND awareness for two of the most common cancers - Skin Cancer (wear yellow) and Breast Cancer (wear pink).

All students are encouraged to come out of uniform in one of these colours.

Tuesday August 23rd - Book Week (dressing as your favourite book character).

All funds raised on this day will go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Students are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character. There will be prizes on offer for students identified as being the ‘best-dressed’ and a fashion parade during our lunchbreak.

For both out of uniform days - students are reminded that this is an optional event but if you come out of uniform you are expected to pay for the privilege - bring your gold coin donation to Positive Futures class.

Building Works

It is exciting to be able to announce that after well over two years of planning, the final stages of our middle courtyard redevelopment commenced yesterday. The courtyard space has now been fenced off for the duration of the redevelopment surfacing works. Students and staff have been notified of the need to take care in and around these spaces and to remain clear of the construction fencing. The construction works will hopefully be completed within a four-week timeline.

Senior School Course Counselling

Our current Year 9, 10 and 11 students have been engaged this week in on-line interviews with senior staff about their courses of study for 2023.

As we undertake this, we also commence our planning for any staffing needs for 2023. Thank you to all students, parents and the senior staff for their support throughout this important process.

To assist our students to make appropriate pathway choices, the Senior School Coordinators and the Careers Coordination team will continue to conduct information sessions and provide individual appointments with students until very late in term 4.
