Myrniong - ELC to Yr 6

Masks at the Junior School

Health advice suggests wearing a well-fitted mask can reduce the risk of catching COVID and flu variants by up to 75%. Students wearing masks in classrooms at the Junior School is limited to a small number. Whilst mask wearing is recommended, but not mandated by the Victoria government, we would like to see more masks on faces in classrooms at Myrniong. At this point in time, we are just over the halfway point of the winter. In order to keep everyone healthy and safe during this third COVID wave, parents are asked to send students to school with masks.

Term Three Parent/Teacher Interviews

Junior School Parent/Teacher interviews will be held in Week 4 (Tuesday August 9th and Wednesday August 10th). Bookings can be made via Mrs. Natalie Povey in the Junior School reception. The focus of the meetings is to talk through the Semester One reports and, the academic progress of your children. If you have important issues or concerns outside this window of focus, a separate meeting can be arranged with the class teacher. Interviews are scheduled to run for 10 minutes. It is very important we keep to this time frame. Phone/TEAMs interviews are available for parents living outside of Hamilton. We look forward to meeting with parents.

Matilda - Fun Facts

Next week sees the Senior Campus production of Matilda - The Musical.  Performances are on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night plus a matinee on Saturday afternoon. Here are five fun facts about the popular author Roald Dahl.

  1. Roald Dahl took two years to write and rewrite Matilda. After spending between 6-8 months writing the book, Dahl felt that it wasn’t right, and so he started the whole thing over again.
  2. Roald Dahl wrote most of his books from a small, cosy hut in his garden. The author would sit in his mother’s old armchair with a custom-made desktop in his lap, and he’d write with pencil on yellow legal paper. According to his daughter Lucy Dahl, his garden was a sacred space, and he saw the hut as his nest.
  3. He wrote over 70 stories and books in total - including 21 children’s picture books, novels & poetry collections as well as over 50 stories for adults.

Netball

On Wednesday, Netball Victoria held the Schools Championships in Hamilton for the first time. It was exciting to have a Myrniong team competing, especially as in the past it has only been our Senior Campus teams who have travelled to compete in these competitions.

Taking to the new courts at Pedrina Park were Year Five students Anyemah Clottey, Elsie Brown, Evie Templeton, Yolie O’Sullivan, Sophie Satchell, Violet Lynch, Jessica Templeton and Camilla Edgar, along with Harriet Stacy and Amelie Shrive, our Year Six leaders.

The rain held off and there was even a hint of sunshine with the girls winning four out of five games for the day, competing against students from other local primary schools.

Thank you to Mrs Julie Templeton for coaching the girls, Mrs Felicity Satchell for scoring and our new gap student Zahria van Niekerk who umpired for the day. We appreciate your help so much. Without you we could not provide such wonderful opportunities for our students.

A big thank you also to the 10 girls who represented our school so well, showing excellent teamwork and sportsmanship. Well done.
