Debating Update
On July 25th, Staughton College’s debate team had their last Debating Association Victoria (DAV) debating round. Our D grade team, which consisted of Georgia-Lee Parsons, Abeeha Asif, Leliyan Al-Artoufi, our C grade team consisting of Piper Hoskin, Shaun Donnely, Iyiesha Grech, and Khinezar Ye Lwin unfortunately lost their debate with pre prepared topics, and our A grade consisting of Kaley Roe, Melecia Koster, Ivy Nielsen and Marissa Borg lost their debate which was a secret topic. Although all of our teams lost, I am extremely proud of the tremendous effort throughout the entire season our students have shown. A huge congratulations to our A grade team for whom round 5 was their last round for their high school debating careers. A big thank you to Ms Clancy who took our teams while Mr Kelly was unable to make it to our last round. Another huge thank you to Mr Lord and Steve Mcgie for their attendance. Check out updates on the bulletin board for further updates on our debating club coming soon in Term 3!
Kaley Roe( Public speaking and debating captain)
On Monday, the 25th of June was the last debate of the D graders first year. The first speaker came in at just about 5 minutes worth of speaking, with her last sentence being cut off by the timer. Our second speaker had a minute left and rebutted for that last minute. Our third speaker spoke for about 4 minutes out of 5. We lost, but it doesn't mean we did not do well. The other team only won due to their third speaker's rebuttals as they were direct. Overall it was a fun night and although we lost, we still won 3 out of 5 debates!
Leliyan AL ARTOUFI( D Grade debater)
Last Monday we had our final round of debates. Unfortunately, Mr Kelly wasn’t able to come with us, however, Miss Clancy stepped up, as she was the previous debate coach, and we had such a great time with her. Mr Lord and MP Steve McGhie also came along for support. It was such a great way to wrap up debating for the year. Slay queen!
