Principal's Report

Gymnasium Opening

It was really exciting to be officially opening our new gymnasium last Friday afternoon. The design of the new gym is innovative, in that it used an unusually large proportion of the original gym infrastructure.  David Nock, our architect for the project with his company 1:1 Architects, noted that his gym design had been promoted in magazines in the US as a way to increase the size of a gym and create an NBA standard facility. I am really proud of our international standard facility! The gym is a physical symbol of the improvement of our school. It also embodies the schools commitment to educating the whole student inside and outside the classroom.

There are many people to thank for the successful completion of the project. Our Facilities Manager Julie Toll has done a superhuman job of managing the project at the school end. Assistant Principal has ably supported her in this work. David Nock and his team at 1:1 have been exceptional in the way they have worked with the school and in advocating for the absolute best outcomes for us. Our builders Capital worked hard to get the job completed amongst the difficulties of lockdowns and supply chain issues. Steve McGhie, our local MLA, has been a strong supporter of the school throughout this process as has the Melton Council, represented at the opening by Sophie Ramsey. Jean Wang at the VSBA and Patricia Mammoliti at our Region have also been really supportive and solution focused. All of our PE teachers, led by Glen Stewart have supported the project by teaching outside for an extended period of time. Finally I would like to thank all our students. We have appreciated their input as we have gone through the process, their patience while we operated without a gym, and their enthusiastic embracing of its use once it has been opened.
