The Year 11s had an encounter experience sailing on the STS Leeuwin II, Friday 22 November.
The past two weeks at John Wollaston have been busy for our students. Even though the Year 12s have disappeared from the day-to-day school environment, many have been in to complete their ATAR examinations. The Year 11s have also been completing certificate courses, exams or both, whilst our Year 10s have commenced their exams.
The end of this week concluded formal classes for the Year 11 students and to wrap up the year they spent the day sailing aboard the STS Leeuwin II followed by lunch on the Esplanade in Fremantle. This not only provided students with the chance to relax as a whole year group but also gave them the chance to finalise some of the events planned for the beginning of their final academic year in 2020.
For students in Years 7 to 10, the remaining weeks may be challenging for some. While the end is in sight, tiredness can start to take hold and some students may feel that the last hurdle to the finish line seems like a mountain. Keeping routines is one of many ways to help combat the fatigue that often sets in at the conclusion of a busy year. Being disciplined and getting to bed on time, gives the body the much- needed rest it craves. Getting up early ensures that there is time to eat, prepare for the day ahead and make sensible choices. Drinking plenty of water to combat dehydration and the negative effects this has on your brain, increases the chance to process and retain new learning. Some of these small but vital things may assist your child in finishing the year in the best way possible.
We still have many exciting events to look froward to. Praise and Thanksgiving Ceremonies will be held for Years 10 and 11 students on Wednesday 4 December commencing at 6:30pm and Years 7, 8 and 9 students on Tuesday 10 December commencing at 1:15pm. Families are most welcome at these important school assemblies. On Thursday 5 December, two additional highlight events will be held. The Year 10s will attend their River Cruise on the Swan River and the Year 7s have an overnight Encounter at Mandejal which has been planned and prepared for by the Year 7 students.
All the best.
