From the Principal

Year 5 Night of Living Treasures, November 2019.

Thank you to the parents who have communicated with me following the School's announcement of tuition fee reductions for 2020. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and I am so pleased that lower tuition fees will make a significant difference to many families. As some parents expressed, "This is life changing for our family."  Such a sentiment vindicates our decision to make a John Wollaston education more affordable to the local community

The Year 5 students and staff showcased a special event this week to a very appreciative audience in the Upper Primary Building. The Night of  Living Treasures was an opportunity for students to 'become' a living treasure - a pop star, a statesman, an historical figure or even a sporting hero. The oral biographies were outstanding, complemented by accents, gestures, costumes and props. Congratulations and well done to all involved!

Year 11 students concluded their academic year today with a special Encounter experience - a day sail on the Leeuwin. Accompanied by six of our staff plus the Leeuwin crew, our 'sailors' experienced the teamwork required to sail a tall ship. This type of experience, which enables some students to flourish and takes others out of their comfort zone, is particularly important for senior students on the cusp of their final year at school. Our Year 2s may well have crossed paths with the Leeuwin as they ferried to Rottnest this morning for their overseas Encounter. Each year the Year 2s prepare for this adventure and by the time they depart, they are ready for all the activities of the day. Swimming , exploring, eating and sightseeing make for a full itinerary and they return weary from a very exciting experience.

The 2019 Prefects Elect will participate in a leadership training workshop with Acting Deputy Principal Pastoral Care, David Crawford next Monday. This will be an opportunity for the students to participate in team building activities, examine various leadership styles, learn more about their specific portfolios and set goals for next year. I look forward to presenting a session on leadership styles which encourages the students to reflect on their own leadership attributes and the importance of working together as a team.

There is much to celebrate as we move into the final weeks of the school year. I look forward to sharing our many special occasions with you.

With good wishes.
