Year 9 Pastoral Guardian

Welcome, Parents and Carers, to Year 9 – Clare School.

As we begin this new academic year, I am excited to be your daughter’s Year 9 Pastoral Guardian for 2020.  I am looking forward to caring for the pastoral development of your daughter and providing guidance and support for her so that she can reach her full potential.

2020 is a not only a new decade; it is a perfect time for new beginnings – new classes, new friendships, new teachers, new goals, new opportunities, and even new hopes and dreams.  By being positive about change or trying something new, your daughter will grow in many different aspects of life - academic, outreach, sporting, arts, community service, and leadership.   Year 9 is a special year as girls have now commenced their journey into Clare School.  During our first year level assembly last week, girls were introduced to our Clare School motto for this year: Brave, Brainy, Brilliant.  The theme for this year is Self in relation to others.  All Year 9 students this year will attend the Samaritan group as part of the Mount Alvernia College Service Learning Program.  Year 9s will discover that, to support others, a certain degree of personal sacrifice must be made.  During Personal Development classes this term, girls will focus on  This is based on Stephen and Sean Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens.

Throughout the year, your daughter will be able to apply for many leadership and public speaking opportunities.  I would encourage all girls to consider these positions, as these opportunities assist to further develop their confidence and communication skills.

As part of my role, I would also like to acknowledge Year 9 students for their personal achievements, both within and outside the College.  If your daughter achieves, or is acknowledged for, any special accomplishments outside the College, I would love to hear about it.  Please contact me at the College on 3357 6000 or via email at chrit@staff.mta.qld.edu.au if you would like to inform me regarding your daughter’s achievements, or if you have any questions or concerns during the year.

I would like to warmly welcome Year 9 students from Japan and their families to the Mount Alvernia community – Natsu Hashimoto and Yuzuha Ui (pictured with Year 10 student Moe Takayanagi).

Looking forward to an amazing year ahead – full of new challenges and opportunities for our Year 9 cohort to shine and be the best version of themselves.
