Founders Day Homegroup Liturgy

On Friday 16 July we celebrated our founders with a Homegroup Liturgy with the theme ‘A Light to Our Path’. Mater Dei is fortunate to be a dual charism school, which means we share two founders; Edmund Rice, who established the Christian Brothers and Nano Nagle, who formed the Presentation Sisters. We remembered the founders of these two spiritual families.

We were very fortunate to have 4 Presentations Sisters join Mr Steve Wheeler’s Webber 1 Homegroup for their Liturgy. We welcomed Sr. Colleen Maloney, Sr. Judith Baz, Sr. Alexis Horsley and our Webber House Patron, Sr. Barbara Webber. We celebrated the realisation that our sisters are indeed ‘A Light to our Path’. May our Founder's spirit continue to live on in our hearts and minds and may God’s call move us beyond self, to plant seeds of hope to endure for the future.

2021 Vinnies Winter Appeal

Thank you to our generous families who donated to our Winter Appeal for 2021. We were inundated with winter items that go straight to Wagga families in need this winter.

Thank you!

Vinnies Family Sleepout

We are inviting families to be advocates for the Homeless to raise awareness about homelessness and disadvantage by participating in 4 simple steps:

Please join us on Friday July 30, as we:

  1. Make soup together to drink to stay warm when out on your own sleepout/sit out. This is something that Vinnies Care Vans usually distribute to those on the street.
  2. Sit outside in the cold for a period of time, with only cardboard to sit on. During this time, discuss questions around how you are feeling, how the homeless must feel, as well as share some facts to raise awareness of Homelessness.
  3. Pray together as a family for those people in our community who have no secure, warm housing.
  4. Donate what you can through the fundraising page.

All money will assist Vinnies in providing support for those in our community who need it the most.

World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly

Pope Francis has proclaimed the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly will be celebrated on the fourth Sunday in July each year – July 25 this year. It is marked near the feast of Sts Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus. May we celebrate the contribution of older people to their families and communities. Access resources at www.catholic.org.au/grandparents

Prayer For The First World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly

I thank You, Lord,

for the comfort of Your presence:

even in times of loneliness,

You are my hope and my confidence,

You have been my rock and my fortress since my youth!

I thank You for having given me a family

and for having blessed me with a long life.

I thank You for moments of joy and difficulty,

for the dreams that have already come true in my life and for

those that are still ahead of me.I thank You for this time of renewed fruitfulness to which You call me.

Increase, O Lord, my faith,

make me a channel of your peace,

teach me to embrace those who suffer more than me,

to never stop dreaming

and to tell of your wonders to new generations.

Protect and guide Pope Francis and the Church,

that the light of the Gospel might reach the ends of the earth.

Send Your Spirit, O Lord, to renew the world,

that the storm of the pandemic might be calmed,

the poor consoled and wars ended.

Sustain me in weakness

and help me to live life to the full

in each moment that You give me,

in the certainty that you are with me every day,

even until the end of the age.

Amen.
