Principal's Update

Paul Clohesy

Welcome to Term 3.

I hope many of you managed to get a break over the school holidays and not too many had holiday plans cancelled due to the COVID outbreaks around Australia.

Our students and staff who attended the Year 11 Top End Tour arrived back safely on the first Tuesday of the holidays after some last minute schedule changes to avoid having to quarantine on their return due to Darwin being declared a ‘Red Zone’ only a couple of hours prior to our group arriving there.

I would like to congratulate all the students and the staff who attended the trip for the calm manner they dealt with changes to the itinerary. All feedback from the staff about the way the students conducted themselves on the trip was extremely positive, which is a credit to them and their families.

Term 3 is another busy one for Trinity College. Junior and senior sporting fixtures begin this week. the zone cross country is also on this week and we wish all students involved in these competitions the best of luck.

Next week we will also be starting the subject selection process with our Year 9, 10 and 11 students, and we have the Senior Ball for our Year 11 and 12 students.

Without a doubt the highlight of Term 3 is sure to be our school’s production of the musical, 'We Will Rock You'. Currently, staff and students involved in the musical are working extremely hard in preparation for this event, which takes place in week 3. I would encourage as many of our students and families as possible to come and see the performance, which is sure to be excellent.

This week we had a full school assembly, which highlighted and acknowledged student achievement in a number of areas - both academic and extra-curricular.

The assembly included a recognition of NAIDOC week and also promoted Refugee Week, which we will be celebrating with a number of activities and events next week. Both of these events are important as they celebrate the diversity that exists in our town and school.

RESIGNATION

It is with a very heavy heart that I would like to announce that our Deputy Principal, Mrs Cheryl Pefanis, has tendered her resignation. Cheryl has been the Trinity College Deputy since 2009 and has been employed at the school since the year 2000. Cheryl will continue in her role until the end of the 2021 school year.

Cheryl has been a tremendous support to me from the moment I was appointed as Principal and is one of the hardest working educators I have ever come across. Cheryl has helped guide thousands of students through their secondary schooling journey while also providing educational and pastoral support for hundreds of staff members.

While we know Cheryl will be very difficult to replace, we will commence this process this week with advertisements in local, regional and Melbourne newspapers as well as on several online sites.

GAT

Finally, I would like to remind our families that the GAT (General Assessment Task) was rescheduled and will take place on Thursday July 29. The GAT requires all students who study a Unit 3/4 VCE subject to sit a 3 hour test.

For all other students in the school Thursday, July 29 is a student free day. Staff not involved in the GAT will take part in professional learning. Please note the student free day we had scheduled for August 5 is now a normal school day.

I hope Term 3 is an enjoyable one for all of our students and families and please remember to make contact with us if any issue or problem arises that we can assist you with.
