SAKG NEWS

The SAKG team is so excited to start planning the new garden addition. Four new raised garden beds are on order, ready for assembly. The HOL team marked out and planned for bench seat construction.

Soil and mulch delivery also locked in. We are full steam ahead and the construction project forecast is for middle of Term 2 completion.

We would like to thank Parents and Friends for the generous donation towards making our students’ PBL project a reality.

They worked very hard at designing, measuring, estimating and collaborating to come up with the vision and we can’t wait to invite the community to share the journey with us. Here are some before pics. Watch this space for progress update.

In the garden, tired beds were rejuvenated with extra compost dug in.

Autumn seedlings including broccoli, cauliflower, red onions, kale, lettuce and silverbeet were planted in time to settle in during the cooler weather. The students absolutely enjoyed getting their hands dirty whilst learning how to plant seedlings and mulching.

The kitchen sessions have been well supported with our regular volunteers. We learnt facts about rice and discovered the types of rice to use for particular dishes. We cooked the following rice dishes.

Fried rice using jasmine rice

Risotto using Arborio rice

Rice salad using brown rice

Sushi Rolls using sushi rice

Happy cooking!
