CAREERS

On the 23rd of June, the students in 9C completed their mock interview sessions as part of their Futures and Careers classes. The students were tasked with completing their resumes and partaking in a roleplay where they would be applying for a position with Bunnings Warehouse.

Many of the students said they were feeling anxious and nervous about the interviews, whilst some said they were feeling unbothered and confident going in. A few even mentioned that the “mock” aspect of the interview helped prevent their nerves from creeping in, although they admitted that a real interview would be a different story. Many students expressed their excitement over having the opportunity to practice for the real-life scenario, some even choosing to dress up for the role.

When asked about any prior work experience, many students mentioned volunteer roles such as coaching, babysitting, helping with the family business, and experience through ‘Hands on Learning’ at Brookside. Additionally, some of the students have had the opportunity or are yet to complete their work placements at Brookside Preschool. While still early in the students’ career pathways, these various experiences will be advantageous in preparing them for the journey ahead.

The students were later given a moment to debrief with their respective interviewers, getting an opportunity to hear more about areas where they did well, and areas of improvement. They welcomed the opportunity to learn more about how they could do better in future career prospects and upcoming job opportunities.
