Scholastics Book Club

We have elected not to run Scholastics Bookclub during Term 3 as we are instead focusing on  hosting a Pop-up Bookshop during Book Week, presented by Collins Bookshop Echuca.

Don’t worry, we will distribute a catalogue in Term 4!

Book Week

History of Book Week

Since 1945, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has celebrated books created by Australian children’s authors and illustrators. It allows libraries across the country to bring children and books together in a variety of ways including author visits, competitions, dress-up events and book fairs.

Here at MAG, the Resource Centre Committee celebrates Book Week a number of different ways;  including displays, whole school activities, art activities, class activities (Library Lessons, mini writers festival) and lunchtime activities organised by the Resource Centre Committee.

Book Week Parade

Our Book Week Parade will be held Tuesday 24 August. Due to COVID-19 restrictions family members are unable to attend. This year’s theme is ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds’.  We encourage all students to join in the fun and come dressed as a character from their favourite book or a character related to the theme.  When it comes to your childs costume, you can either be super creative yourself with bits and pieces you have around the home, or you can buy a ready made costume. A good option is Costume Box

Book Week Pop-up Book Shop

In creating connections with our wider community, we have again partnered with Collins Booksellers to present our annual pop-up book shop. We will set it up in the Harkness Room, giving students a chance to view and purchase books over the three days, 24-26 August. The students will also have an opportunity to visit the book shop during class time to peruse what is on offer and create a wishlist, which they will bring home. Items range from $3.00 - $30.00. If your child wishes to purchase a book, please send the money to school in a clearly labelled envelope/ziplock bag and ensure it is passed on to the classroom teacher.

Premier's Reading Challenge

The Challenge concludes August 20th.  Please see the website for more details: https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html

How are you all keeping up with the challenge? Have you entered your books on the website? Mrs. Price has been able to validate a number of students already, so keep up the great work.

There have been a number of rule changes listed below .

2021 Rule Changes - Effective 4 August 2021.

The Challenge is well equipped to support student participation from home. The following adjustments will be applied to the Challenge in 2021:

  • Students on all Challenge levels are able to read 10 choice books - an increase from five.
  • Students on all Challenge levels will be able to include books on their reading records that they read collaboratively as a class, in person or online with their teacher or at home with their parents/carers.
  • Students who complete the Challenge in 2021 will be able to count this towards cumulative awards.
  • Students who do not participate in the Challenge in 2021 will not be disadvantaged in the receipt of cumulative awards.
  • If you have any questions about the adjustments to Challenge rules for 2021, please contact your PRC coordinator or email the PRC team at prc@det.nsw.edu.au.
