Numeracy

In Mathematics, students will be informally introduced to Multiplication and Division. Students will solve problems linked to real life situations, modelled with concrete materials and show their thinking by informally recording.

This term students will:

Grade One

  • Represent practical situations that model sharing.
  • Recognise and describe one half as two equal parts of a whole.
  • Investigate and describe number patterns formed by skip counting and patterns with objects

Grade Two

  • Recognise and represent multiplication as repeated addition, groups and arrays.
  • Recognise and represent division as grouping into equal sets and solve simple problems using these representations.

In the area of Applied Mathematics, students will be describing the likelihood of outcomes and connect real life examples to language of Chance. Students will also explore Location by giving and following directions involving simple mathematical language.
