Wellbeing support for your child                   Remote Learning 5.0

Leanne Halsall and Tiffany Griffith sent the Wellbeing Grid and the Boredom and Creativity workbook to students last week. These resources support students’ wellbeing.

This is a time where things are unusual, unsettled and a little out of whack for everyone, so it is probably normal that some adolescents may experience higher levels of stress, anxiety or worry.

What are students currently worried about?

  • Not keeping up with work
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Struggling with their routine
  • Struggling with being at home
  • Not seeing their friends face-to-face

How parents can support their children:

  • Ensure your child has a routine – regular bedtime during the week and at least 8 hours sleep per night. Turn off technology appliances at least one hour before bed
  • Encourage your child to get outside and exercise each day – 30 minutes of walking minimum
  • Provide healthy food options, including fresh fruit and vegetables and encouraging your child to drink water
  • Stay connected with your child and check in with them each day
  • Monitor your child’s time with technology outside of school hours
  • Encourage your child to take regular breaks away from the screen to rest their eyes and stretch their muscles.

Supporting your child will enable them to manage their stress levels. If you have serious concerns for your child please refer to the Mental Health Support during Remote Learning brochure. During school hours, you can contact Principal staff – Antoinette Hooper, Bradley Moyle, Frazer Thomas or Hans Mulholland and the Student Wellbeing Coordinator – Leanne Halsall via XUNO.

Students currently engaged with Wellbeing staff counsellors and the Mental Health Practitioner, will be contacted and offered counselling via Microsoft Teams.
