Year of Wonders and The Crucible:

Performance Review

Our final unit of study for Year 12 English this year involves comparing and contrasting two texts, Arthur Miller’s play, 'The Crucible'  and Geraldine Brooks’ novel, 'Year of Wonders'. Both of these texts are quite complex, and initially we all struggled to comprehend them. To aid us in this task, we were lucky enough to be visited by the Complete Works Theatre Company, who produced a lively enactment of some of the key scenes from the texts.

Seeing 'The Crucible' and 'Year of Wonders' come to life allowed us all a much deeper understanding of both texts, and allowed us to properly see the similarities between them. We were all very grateful for this incursion as it provided a very important and helpful insight into the texts we are working with.

The company actors all had a very deep understanding of the texts and were able to answer any queries we had about the themes and issues displayed in each. All the students who attended this incursion found it beneficial, and came away full of fresh ideas and new knowledge.
