Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you to those of you who were able to join the P&F meeting last night. I was very appreciative of the overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents in regard to remote learning and their gratitude for the work of St Joseph's staff.

Mr. Aguilera and Mrs. Grose also joined the meeting as we were keen to hear from parents about their home learning experiences and any challenges we may be able to address over the coming weeks as we work together with you to continue remote learning.

The one thing that remains very clear is the need to balance school learning expectations with the very wide variety of challenges families are facing. I encourage all families to only do what they can with children learning at home.

On some days your child/ren may not get their learning completed because of your circumstances. Feel free to either leave that work or find another day or time to catch up. Teachers are planning around 2 and a half hours of learning in K-2, and approximately three hours of work in Years 3-6.

Of course, the time it takes for your individual children to complete their work can vary depending on your child and their preferred learning style and commitment.  For example, a writing task that teachers may expect to take 20 minutes may take 40 minutes for a student who really goes beyond the expectation. Teachers don't have the opportunity as they would in the classroom, to make on-the-spot judgements about timing, so please feel free to make them at home.

We understand that too much work can create stress for most families as does too little. Therefore the learning schedules contain optional tasks if you and your child choose to complete them.

The most important thing is that you make the learning schedules work for your child and family. Continue to have high expectations of your child/ren.

Is your child moving enough while learning at home?

Last week's newsletter contained information for you as you support your child/ren's wellbeing while learning at home. This week we focus on movement as an important aspect of maintaining wellbeing.

I invite you and your children to visit the Wellbeing page of this newsletter to view a video from Mrs. Kylie Grose, Middle Leader and featuring our Year 6 House Captains.

St Joseph, pray for us.
