Stage 4 - Year 7 and 8
During Semester 1, students were busy working hard on building and extending their working scientifically skills. The students enjoyed exploring the Scientific Method by taking part in many hands-on investigations in class. This allowed students to engage collaboratively to gain essential knowledge of subject content and skills.
Stage 5 - Year 9 and 10
Year 9 and 10 students explored the ‘Chemical World’ and ‘the Physical World’ of Science during Semester 1. While Year 9 were engaged in learning about Atomic Theory, Waves and Motion, Year 10 classes had an insightful time in Science by learning about Chemical Reactions and Electricity. Both year groups completed their Half-Yearly Science Examinations as their assessment for Term 2.
Stage 6 - Year 11 and 12
Year 11
Depth Study Field Trip
On the 1st of June, Biology and Investigating Science students conducted a Field Study at Penrith Lakes Environmental Education Centre. Students took on the role of Environmental Scientists as they explored Ecosystem Dynamics and collected qualitative and quantitative primary water quality data. A great day was had by all!!
Chemistry, Biology and Investigating Science students have been extremely productive and were thoroughly engaged in conducting their Depth Studies as well as Practical Examinations as part of their Assessment tasks for the Preliminary Higher School Certificate course. Students are embracing the concepts of learning by collaborating, planning and conducting many hands-on activities in their lessons through working scientifically.
Year 12
Chemistry, Biology and Investigating Science students have been busy completing assessments as part of their Higher School Certificate course and are preparing for their Trial Higher School Certificate Examinations coming up in Term 3. We wish them the best of luck in their preparations.
Have a safe break everyone and we will see you all back in TERM 3!
HSIE
It has been an extremely busy first semester of 2021 in the HSIE faculty with students across multiple subjects producing extremely pleasing work. Our Year 7 Big History classes are currently learning about the first ever living creatures that inhabited planet Earth and have just finished producing their own weird and wacky creatures for their 'Create a Species' Assessment Task. Teachers across all of the classes are very proud of the quality of work submitted.
In Year 9 Elective History, students are almost at the end of their unit of work on infamous serial killer Jack the Ripper. Students will submit their own murder boards as a part of the assessment for the unit where they will examine various sources in an attempt to solve the case themselves!
Earlier this semester, Year 10 completed their study of the Holocaust. This is an extremely rich and valuable topic that our students have the chance to involve themselves in. The topic concluded with an excursion to the Sydney Jewish Museum and Holocaust Memorial where our students got to meet and speak with Holocaust survivors. As always, Evans students demonstrated impeccable behaviour, they engaged extremely positively with the learning opportunities provided for them that day.
As we move into the pointy end of the Year for our HSC students, parents and carers are reminded to ensure that their child is completing an appropriate amount of study each evening, completing all work assigned to them and also ensuring that students take rest where necessary. This will put them in the best possible position to succeed in both their trial and HSC exams.
