Congratulations Henry Baker!

We are very excited to congratulate Year Eleven student, Henry Baker whose drawing The Pigeon, has been selected as a finalist in the Shaun Tan Award for Young Artists Exhibition. This is a fabulous achievement; Henry’s work was one of ten in his category selected out of 1,100 entries. The exhibition will be at Subiaco Library from 13 July to 8 August. Henry loves creating caricatures of people he knows and his drawing depicts people in front of a European Cathedral who are so busy looking at their mobile phones that they miss out on seeing all the adventures the pigeons around them are having.

Art Focus Day

Year Eight students thoroughly enjoyed getting creative on Wednesday afternoon. Each student participated in a workshop with a practicing artist. Workshops included experimental drawing with Ms Jo Wassell, in this workshop student created a group drawing using wallpaper and charcoal. In Ceramics with Mr Nathan Bray a group of very focused students created sea themed sculptures. The Drama Improvisation group with Mr Simon Woodward gave very entertaining renditions of famous fairytales; we discovered that the wolf in Red Riding Hood has been very unfairly depicted! Students painted delicate watercolour paintings of beautiful flowers with Mrs Penny Baker. Cartooning and illustration students were very imaginative as they created drawings of characters who had a super power of ‘reading’, they were very inspired by Mr Colin Montefiore. Some wonderful recycled puppets were made out of everyday items with Ms Cecile Williams including dinosaurs! An inspiring and uplifting way to end the term!

Pizza Beats 2021

With the COVID restrictions coming back into the Perth and Peel regions over the past weekend, the Year Ten Contemporary Music students fitted a performance in last Thursday. The lead up to Pizza Beats was very eventful, with countless hours spent rehearsing and practising the music that was performed, and the night turned out amazing. Each of the performances were very unique, allowing the crowd to feel the music, ranging from hardcore rock Killing in The Name by Rage Against the Machine to much calmer songs, such as Slow Dancing In a Burning Room by John Mayer. The two music classes both put on amazing shows, and there were incredible amounts of support all throughout the crowd, which was greatly appreciated. A special thank you to Mr Burke, Mr Tompkin and Ms Luxton for organising the event and allowing us to accomplish this.
