Year Eight Project Based Learning

On Wednesday I visited the Agricultural Project Based Learning open event where I was joined by parents of the Year Eight class and other staff in celebrating their achievements which included production of honey, beeswax candles and tomato chutney to name a few.  Project Based Learning is a dynamic approach in which students actively explore problems and challenges and acquire a deeper knowledge and understanding of their learning area. In this case, students were required to develop a product using produce from the farm. Dads in the Great Southern (DiGS)

On Friday a group of nearly 30 dads gathered at the Army Cadet Barracks with the purpose of sharing stories around fatherhood.  John Byrne and I led the discussion on significant male father figures with stories of how our fathers had influenced our lives, including retelling stories from family holidays, significant childhood events and involvement of father-figures.  From these stories flowed the understanding of the importance of the father figure - child relationship and much engaging conversation.  The night continued with the audience sharing informal stories, pizza and collegiality.  Thanks goes to P&F President, Mr Jim Darmody and DiGS Representative, Mr John Byrne for their coordination of this successful event.

Country Week

Unfortunately, due to the recent COVID restrictions the Country Week sporting fixtures were cancelled. The students were informed on arrival at the Arthur River Roadhouse, after the bus had departed Great Southern Grammar almost three hours earlier.  Thank you to the Coaches for their preparation of the teams and special thanks to Mr Nathan Symonds, Director of Sport, particularly as this is the second time in two years this event has not been held.

Holidays

We wish you a safe and happy holiday, given the current COVID restrictions in Perth and Peel.  The School will provide communication to school families prior to the commencement of Term Three with an update of any relevant information. The communication will reflect the current status of restrictions that may be in place for the start of the term.
