Artist of the Week

Lacrimosa - Angel Ponlok

Angel of Banksia year 12 voluntarily entered 'Lacrimosa' into the running for Artist of the Week and has been chosen as this week's winner!

Angel has provided the following explanation of her artwork;

"This drawing was sketched on paper then edited using digital software. I tried to encapsulate the feeling of agony; the chaotic use of lines and the absence of colour aiming to emphasise the woman's pain, who is drawn on her knees, bent over, clawing at her hair. I did not draw the face so the audience could focus on the body language rather than the facial expression".

IMPRESSIVE WORK ANGEL!

The Windmill - Josh Mawlay

Acrylic paint on paper - Josh of Acacia year 10 has been studying Impressionist painting in his art class. He explored the use of short brush strokes and optical colour mixing prior to creating this impressive A2 sized landscape painting.

Missed u 2 - Jay Heng

Mixed media (toys, beads, candles, string, ribbon, hair clips, playdoh containers, paint pens). Jay of Acacia year 8 voluntarily entered 'Missed u 2' into the running for Artist of the Week and has been chosen as this week's winner! Jay has provided the following explanation of her artwork;

“I hear a lot about how people have thrown their old toys away and it absolutely devastates me. There is so much potential and so many little things that you remember about an insignificant piece of plastic that you used to play with when you were a child. I like objects because they will never leave. People leave. We leave places. But objects stay. At least, they’re meant to. When I look at it all (my sculpture) I feel a sense of nostalgia.”

Monument Valley-Inspired video game level - Emily Nguyen

Coloured pencils and fine liner on paper

Emily of Banksia's year 9 Visual Communication Design class has been studying isometric drawing and how to render a variety of surfaces using pencils. Emily studied the puzzle video game titled 'Monument Valley' with its complex isometric level designs. Emily was then challenged to design her own Monument Valley-inspired level design using her isometric drawing and rendering skills. This is Emily's outstanding final A3 design!

The Singularity (Black Hole) - Justyn Ny

Blender (computer software)

Justyn has provided the following explanation for his artwork;

 "The Singularity was created using blender a 3D modelling and animation program. This artwork has been created using a plane and sphere with modifiers so that the sphere will simulate the light wrapping effects of a black hole. The black hole originally going to be an animation of it spinning but unfortunately would have taken two days to render. The meaning behind this is to show how powerful and extreme such a thing can be but it also shows how weird and complicated they truly are. I also wish to inspire people not to be scared of physics and take a leap into the horizon, jump into uncertainty"

The Shocked Man - Winston Tea

Graphite on paper

Winston of Acacia's year 9 Drawing class has been studying tone and proportion techniques throughout term 2. Winston created this outstanding final A3 drawing using the grid method taught in class to maintain correct facial proportions.

Animation - Cindy Chen, Mudda Sony and Sarah Phan

Cindy, Mudda, and Sarah of Acacia year 9 Multimedia worked as a production team to produce a 2D animation, focusing on shot types, camera angles and illusion of time. Illustrations were planned on storyboards and then drawn in Adobe Illustrator on their iPads, which then were imported into Adobe Animate.

The Rabbit - Maja Surlan

Oil pastels on paper

Maja's Acacia year 7 art class was first given an A3 paper photocopy of random objects. They were then required to use their creative thinking and the pastel blending techniques explored in class to turn their page of random objects into an artwork. Maja showed exceptional creativity by using her objects to create a rabbit, carrot, and sun. If you look closely you can see the outline of the three objects she used to construct her artwork. Maja also demonstrated outstanding skill in using the pastel blending techniques taught in class.

Fruit Bowl Drawing - Tam Le

Pastel pencils on paper

Tam of Acacia year 9 completed this outstanding half-drawing of a fruit bowl as part of her recent art studies. Tam was required to cut the photo of a fruit bowl on a random angle and then attempt to draw/replicate half of the image through the application of pastel blending techniques that were explored in class. Well done Tam on creating a well-proportioned and neatly rendered drawing!
