Principal's  Report

August 2021

I want to take this opportunity to thank our school community - staff, students and families - for the swift response to the sudden lockdowns.  While these times are challenging for us all, working together will ensure a positive outcome.

During and after Remote and Flexible Learning we will be ensuring that we provide continuity of learning and wellbeing support for our students. We also have processes in place to follow up attendance. It is really important that students connect to their classes and their teaches through the platforms that we use – COMPASS and Webex.

Recording student attendance

Student attendance is recorded every lesson. Teachers and sub school teams will follow up with families if students are not attending classes on line, connecting to lessons or completing work tasks. Please contact the College if you have concerns about your child’s attendance during remote learning.

Wellbeing check-ins

In addition to recording student attendance, teachers will be checking in on their students’ wellbeing. Year 7 to 9 Connect teachers will also be checking in with their students. If you have concerns about your child’s wellbeing please contact the relevant sub school team.

Learning programs

We have learning programs in place that ensure continuity of learning is maintained during this period, with a focus on literacy and numeracy for students.  Small group tutoring and classroom support programs will continue on line during this time.

Student Achievement

The semester one awards ceremony is usually held this time of the year. We celebrate Academic Excellence and Commitment to Learning in this newsletter. We will have an online assembly in coming weeks to celebrate when we are back on site. Congratulations to all of those students.  We also celebrated our Year 7s first 100 days of secondary school.  Congratulations to the Year 7s.

Building Works Update

The current works are on track for completion by the end of the year. The three new buildings will be ready for occupancy early term four, with the demolition of blocks A, B and C to be completed by December 22nd. It is really exciting to see how quickly the project is coming along.  With the new sports precinct, Greensborough College is now a central community hub over the weekend and the School of Choice in our area.

Covid-19 Restrictions and Safe Practices

Just a reminder to parents and families that post lockdowns, there are restrictions in place for entry to the College.  At this time, we are unable to have parents or visitors on site. If you need to make payments or you have enquiries please call the office.

We also ask visitors, including parents, not to park in the car park when they pick up or drop off their child.  This is a safety issue with the congestion in this area. Please drop off and pick up in the street.

Finally, when we do return to site, if your child is sick or has any symptoms, please do not send them to school until they are well and have no symptoms. As per government advice, it is recommended that people with symptoms have a Covid test.

Parent Opinion survey

Thank to those parents who have completed the survey.  A random selection of parents has been asked to undertake the survey. If you are one of those, this is just a gentle reminder to submit the survey. The data is very useful for us and informs our policy planning and decision making.

Stay safe and stay well.
