3/4 Learning Area

3/4 LM

The students in 3/4LM are continuing to show how resilient and responsible they are throughout Term 2. I’ve been so impressed with everyone’s learning and participation. You should all be so proud of yourselves.

Here are the Students of the Week so far this term.

Week 2: Nicholas Worm

Nicholas had a wonderful start to the term. He made sure to participate at his best. Nicholas also made a Google Slide presentation about ANZAC Day on his own that was very informative and interesting to his classmates. Well done Nicholas!

Week 3: Alessia Borzillo

Alessia has demonstrated her resilience while learning at home. When there has been a problem, she has done her best to problem solve independently and more often than not can resolve the issue herself. Keep it up Alessia!

Week 4: Japneet Kaur

Japneet has shown how much she values her learning while we have been learning from home. She makes sure she goes back to her work to check for feedback from me, and then she makes any changes needed. Fantastic work Japneet!

Week 5: Kane Organ

Kane clearly has a love of learning. He has made sure that in every task he works to his best and doesn’t take the easy way out. Kane thinks deeply about his responses, particularly when inferring in literacy. Superstar effort Kane!

Covid-19 Reflections

As a part of English studies, the children read some reports on the effects of Covid-19 on our environment and the world in general. Using the structure of a recount, the children could choose any form of a recount for example a letter, a retell or reflection to share their experiences during this time.  I wonder if these were read in 20, or 30 years’ time if they would evoke fond or sad memoirs.

Here are some of our children’s, authors, writing:

Once covid-19 has been here, this is the first year I have not been camping for Easter. I never thought I would say this but I miss the flies and mossies when we were out in the bush camping. I also miss sleeping in my swag.

The thing I miss the most is AFL on the TV. I miss the ROAR of the crowd at the MCG, it’s the best experience to go to the ‘G’ sit down and listen to the extremely loud ROAR of the crowd as well as giving your team support.

I also miss my friends and mates. The last time I saw them was just before the school holidays, but I’m at school now for three days a week so I get to see some of them.

I can’t wait until everything goes back to normal so we can have sleepovers.

The weirdest thing about this pandemic is not going anywhere and when I say anywhere, I mean ANYWHERE! It gets a bit boring at home when you are there all the time. Maybe we can go places soon.

It’s weird staying home two days a week (in my case.) Because I don’t have a routine, so I sit around after school and think of stuff to do because as I said it in the other paragraph. IT GETS BORING.

Some bad things about COVID-19 is that my family are not allowed to have dinner at my Nonna’s House, I am not allowed to see my cousins or go to their house, during lockdown we couldn’t celebrate their birthdays, we sang happy birthdays using the app house party.

I cannot see my friends or go their houses. To see my friends or talk to them I had to use facetime, house parties or zoom meetings.

I couldn’t have Easter with my family

Some positive things about COVID-19 is that I can do more exercise at whatever time I want,I can spend more time outside and kick the football and soccer ball,I can play more board games with my family,I can spend more time with my family,we do drive by birthdays,I can go on the motorbike more,I can do more eBay shopping.

During the coronavirus pandemic, I have noticed a lot of different things in society as well as how my family have changed and how mother nature has taken over. I believe not all the changes are bad and that good can come out of them!

Ever since lockdown environmental effects have started to happen all over the globe. In the water canals of Venice wildlife have started to appear. This has been a direct result of less boats on the water and less rubbish from tourists. The water has started to clear up so we are able to see colourful plants crabs and jellyfish. In the UK because of the lack of cars and people animals have started coming into the streets and wildflowers have started to appear in great numbers. I believe this is a clear sign of how mother nature can bounce back in the absence of humans.

In lockdown, my house has been a lot quieter and we have found ourselves wanting to be social. The positives are that we are spending a lot more time together as a family and I have found more time to spend with my animals. We have learned to adapt to new things and living styles, I find I have learnt more about responsibility since the lockdown. I feel like I have had more time to focus on hobbies and skills and have learnt new ways to entertain myself. One of the downsides is that we are all miss face-to-face interaction with other people and we have learnt to enjoy the little moments we have spent seeing friends. We all miss seeing our relatives nevertheless thanks to the Internet we can talk to our relatives. So far we have found a solution to the majority of the problems and I hope we can find a treatment for coronavirus soon.

This lockdown has changed a lot of things I believe it has change society a lot. People have started to be more focused on cleanliness, to wash your hands more often and not touch our face and we should continue this moving forward. We are now very cautious about who and what we touch. We have found ourselves realising that technology is not all that great, we need to talk to people face-to-face and be able to interact personally.

The pandemic has changed a lot of things but we have also gained a lot of knowledge and I’ve had the chance to experience something I would have never thought about.

3D Shape - poem, rap or song.

From our study on three dimensional shapes in mathematics, the children were asked to complete a poem, rap or song that what a 3D shape is.

What do you think of these?

3D shapes come with the aces,

got vertices, edges and a lot of faces.

Cones are like a party hat,

2d cones are boring and flat.

You can see a sphere in a bouncy ball,

but 2d spheres don’t bounce at all.

A cylinder is in a sausage roll,

or a pole holding up a soccer goal

Dice and ice come in the shape of a cube,

if you don't know what I mean search it up on YouTube

3D shapes will rock you

3D shapes will rock you! Block you!

Pyramids and prisms with all different faces,

You can find them in all sorts of places!

3D shapes will rock you! Block you!

Cubes and cylinders everything and all,

Then you got a sphere that shaped like a ball!

3D shapes will rock you! Block you!

Cones are great with an ice cream treat,

3D shapes are pretty neat!!!!

3D Song

I found my problem with 2D that’s right

It has no cylinders, it just can’t test it’s might

There is no doubt the cube is right on par,

We see equal angles here, it could be a star.

3D’s the word

I think the sphere is an amazing thing,

Why don’t they understand it helps our planet spin,

And the prism upon the Ferris wheel

It’s so rectangular and cool, it’s just the way that I feel.

Chorus

3D’s the word

It’s the word,

It’s the shape, yes you herd,

It’s got length, it’s got meaning.

3D is the height, it’s the width, the dimension,

3D is the way we are learning.

We take dimension and we find a way

Conventionality, 2D so yesterday.

There is a chance that we can learn so far,

We start by defining shapes so we can see what they are.

Chorus

The depths no illusion

 Vertex out of control

It’s just so amazing!
