A Note from the Principal

Term 2, 2020 will long be remembered as the most unusual term that any of us can remember.  Schools, churches, shops, gyms, restaurants all closed in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.   Students spent the majority of the term isolated in their homes. Teachers quickly adapted their programs to allow students to continue to learn even though they couldn't be at school.  Some of us were forced to take a crash course on Canvas and we soon became very familiar with Zoom.  For the most part, it worked pretty well.   But we missed being with each other.  We missed being normal and doing our normal things.

Still, it was, in many ways, a term of tremendous growth - perhaps more than any other term.  Students, staff, and parents all demonstrated great flexibility and adaptability.  They showed resilience and determination.  They showed they could rapidly learn new things. They demonstrated their love and concern for others by giving up some of their own freedom to safeguard the health and well-being of the vulnerable.  Thank you, and well done.

For some of our students, the experience of learning at home was rather challenging. Returning to learning at school couldn't come soon enough.  For others,  learning at home reaped great reward.   With the suspension of many of the other activities in our lives, some were able to focus on their learning and make rapid progress.  Whatever the result in your home, thank you, students and parents, for sticking at it and giving it your best shot.  We know it was often hard and we are very grateful for your efforts to make it a success.

I would also like to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of our teachers and staff this past term.  They have faithfully worked hard for the good of their students through very trying circumstances.  They have faced immense uncertainty and been forced to adapt quickly and dramatically.  They have been amazing.  Thank you.

Though the challenges we have faced and may yet face have been formidable, our God is greater.  Though we find ourselves isolated and alone, our God will never leave us.  'Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before (us), let (us) be singing...Bless the Lord, O my soul.'
