Helpful Hints

Current Canteen Menu

Attached are copies of our limited canteen menus for every day up until Friday 5 June whilst Years 11 and 12 students are onsite.  It is recommended that students pre-order by coming to the canteen and the staff will take their order and payment.

There will be a dedicated queue for pick-up of orders to streamline service and eliminate the need for students to be lingering around the canteen. Payment can be made by debit card if students have access to one and Elynwood have lowered the spend limit to $4.00 to make it easier for students to pay.  Signage has been arranged for the dedicated order and pickup queue.

Wellbeing Support for Students

To meet the wellbeing needs of returning students we will be implementing a brief intervention model of support to get students  back on track in a changing  environment. Classroom teachers will be welcoming back students with a mix of reconnect, bounce back activities and study.

Teachers will be monitoring students and are asked to alert the wellbeing team if students are displaying signs of difficulties in adjusting back into  school. A wellbeing team member will then respond by attending the class and providing a brief intervention of 5-10 mins to assist in the young person returning to the classroom. We have designed a traffic light system to provide a framework for teachers to seek appropriate Interventions. When a wellbeing team member attends to your child a post on compass will be made to inform you that this intervention has occurred. If you do not want a wellbeing team member to attend your child`s classroom please email the Student Wellbeing Coordinator.

GREEN:

Student presentation likely to appear slightly exited, worried, distracted, some challenges to step back into on site learning. Suggested Response-  Teacher/staff member to check in with the student to determine the area of concern/stress and if related to curriculum/class work attempt to notify the relevant teacher/coordinator and flag the student concern.

YELLOW:

Student presentation likely to appear teary, unable to concentrate or focus on current content, restless, potential anger or upset.  Suggested Response- Teacher/staff member to offer the student a 5 minute time out option whereby the student may wish to exit the classroom, go get a drink/have a quick walk, spend 5 mins regrouping/focusing, use mindfulness techniques or App's to bring themselves into the current moment then return to class.  Notify Coordinator of incident for follow up.

RED:

Student presentation likely to be extreme distress, significant tears, panic attack, complete withdrawal, inability to remain present in class, potentially causing other students distress.   Suggested Response- Notify Sharlene Hetherington and Karen Hallam (Wellbeing SWC's) via teams so that they can send a member of the Wellbeing Team to the classroom for a response that most likely will involve supporting the student outside the classroom including use of grounding techniques to get the student to focus on the present moment, or if required take them to the wellbeing house.

Parent resources to support student wellbeing and engagement

As we return to on-site learning, it is reasonable to expect mixed emotions and responses from students as they settle back to being in a classroom with varied distractions. It is likely that many students may feel overwhelmed with work they fell behind on during remote learning or the uncertainty of how the rest of the year will play out.

The teachers and support staff at RSC are acutely aware of unique challenges your children are overcoming during this difficult time and have established a range of strategies to guide them through.

We also recognise the critical role of you as a parent/guardian in identifying and responding to distress in your child. We hope that the following resources will support you to feel equipped with some useful tools in this context and would love to hear from you if we can offer any other assistance.
