From the Assistant Principal

Pivot!

Pivot! No I'm not quoting classic episodes of 'Friends' (although, that is a favourite pastime of mine...). The word unprecedented has overshadowed 2020 but the word 'pivot' comes a close second! All around us we are hearing examples of companies and individuals who have been able to 'pivot' and change their business, their outlook, their plans for the better. And what remarkable stories of resilience and optimism to share with our children! Whether it is the nationally acclaimed staging company now doing a roaring trade in flatpack office furniture...or the local burger joint working hard to keep their waitstaff employed by offering home delivery... it is actually inspiring to think about companies that have had the luxury to 'pivot' their focus and move into the future with fresh eyes.

All members of the Kalinda community have done their fair share of pivoting over the last few months and whether your new normal is exactly where you hoped it would be heading or not, don't be afraid to take opportunity to celebrate your resilience and persistence. This is also a lovely opportunity to decide what we like about our new normal, what can change and doesn't need to go back to the 'old normal' just because? At Kalinda the word pivot makes us think of the incredible achievements we have all made over the last few months but also makes us a little....well...weary! Are you feeling that too? That's ok! Give yourself the luxury of resting and re-energising, you have earnt it!

Anxiety

Recently I was fortunate to attend a session with psychologist Dr Michael Carr-Gregg. The opportunity to discuss student wellbeing 'post-Covid' was a great opportunity to hear about what resources are out there to support families.

One thing we know across Australia is there has been a rise in anxious behaviours in children. This can present in so many different ways in our children. If you are concerned about your child's behaviour and you would like more information about anxiety in children you might find the following resources interesting.
