Mr Irwin's Message

Hello Families,

I wanted to start this edition of the newsletter by thanking you for the way you’ve helped make the transition back to school smooth and easy. Drop-off and pick-up times have been as smooth as possibly expected because you’ve all been following the expectations set up to manage social distancing for adults at school. Our classrooms have been very settled with students returning and I have no doubt stress free drop off has helped with this.

Next week on Tuesday our Year 3-6 students return on-site too. Initially we won’t be staggering drop-off or pickup times and simply ask that families continue to do what they’re doing; have a clear plan with their children about where to meet, and whilst waiting maintain appropriate social distancing procedures.

OSHC

There’s a few changes to how we receive bookings for OSHC that I wanted to run you through this week. It’s timely to make these changes in anticipation for all students returning to school.

OSHC is now back to normal hours in the Mudbrick, and we would appreciate it if families could book/double check sessions they require before next week if they have senior school students requiring OSHC. This will ensure we are suitably resourced to meet the needs of students once service resumes.

For permanent bookings please email us at oshc@teesps.org or text/call us on 0466634445. Take a screenshot of these details for future reference. Bookings will no longer be taken through the school office. If you do call the school office for a booking you’ll be directed to use either the email or mobile number above. It will NOT be assumed that children will automatically return to their previous hours so please use either the above email or phone number to reconfirm regular bookings with us.

For casual bookings please begin using the My Family Lounge App.

The link is on the school website under the OSHC tab and the Bookings Page.

Changes to Semester One Reporting

Finally, I wanted to provide a brief update regarding Semester One school reports. The Department of Education and Training has adjusted the expectations of Student Reports for Semester 1 in recognition of the transition to remote and flexible learning during Term 2.

While our school has continued to deliver its teaching and learning program and monitor the achievement and progress of each student, there have been some unprecedented changes to our usual program.

At Teesdale Primary School, we know it is vital to involve students and their parents/carers in learning. This process includes providing reports on student learning.

Teesdale Primary School will provide a written report for the parent/carer of each student enrolled at the school for Semester 1. The reports will include information on student achievement for each curriculum area taught, however, there are some changes from our usual Semester 1 reports.

Student reports for Semester 1 2020 will include:

  • a descriptive statement of the areas of the Victorian Curriculum F-10 covered throughout semester 1
  • individual comments regarding student learning achievement, based on the areas of literacy and numeracy
  • a comment on how the student has adjusted to the remote and flexible learning environment.

In line with advice from the Department of Education and Training and the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority, Teesdale Primary School will not be including teacher judgements and a five-point scale due to the unprecedented changes to our program due to COVID-19. We will report on progress at the end of the year.
