Prep News

I-Time investigations are always a favourite in Prep Land! We had to adapt our program to Home Learning and find other ways to explore our Biological Science concepts instead.

Some weeks ago, the Preps received a special letter in the mail which contained their very own snow pea seeds for them to plant and watch grow. It has been wonderful hearing their excitement to discover that they've started sprouting and growing tall! We love that our families have supported this hands-on learning at home. We have been learning about the difference between Living and Non-Living things, what plants need to grow, as well as looking at life cycles.

The Preps are so excited to be back in the classroom where they can continue to explore these concepts with their friends. Check out some of the home learning pictures we've received over the past few weeks, as well as some snaps of our Preps happily exploring their new I-Time areas  back at school! We thank those families who have supported our learning with donations of stockings for our upcoming "grass head" pots!

We love how much our Preps keep growing (literally, some of them have really shot up over the past two months!) We have been impressed at how well they've remembered school routines and slotted back into classroom life with such ease! We are so happy to have our energetic and caring classes back at school.

Level 1/2 News

YAY for being back at school and for beginning face-to-face learning for Term 2. Our Level 1/2 students have been so excited to return to the classroom. They were most excited about being reunited with friends and being allowed on the play equipment at school. For the first few days there have been plenty of sharing stories with friends, lots of dancing, some yoga and mindful colouring to settle back into school life and routines. Have a look through the picture gallery to see our students enjoying being back in their classrooms!

National Simultaneous Storytime 2020

National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 20th year, it is a fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.

By facilitating NSS we aim to:

  • promote the value of reading and literacy
  • promote the value and fun of books
  • promote an Australian writer and publisher

This year, the book for NSS is ‘Whitney and Britney: Chicken Divas’ by Lucinda Gifford

We read the story and have been busy creating tiaras and feather boas to show off our inner diva!

Level 3/4

It's not long now until all of the students are back at RHPS and it will be lovely to see everyone together again! The Level 3/4 teachers and ESOs are back at school and are busily preparing classrooms and learning activities for our students. You have done a fantastic job of the Home Learning program and we are really excited about seeing your smiling faces and continuing our learning journey together.

Level 5/6

Week 8 is approaching and what incredible determination and persistence we have seen from our Grade 5/6 students during remote/online learning. We would like to congratulate all of the Grade 5/6 students for engaging with the online content that has been developed and consistently displaying their Personal Best. It has been delightful to see everyone's digital technology skills developing further and the submission of digital work that encompasses abstract thinking.

Reading:

Since our last newsletter, the Grade 5/6 students have been analysing and critiquing the texts that they have been reading. They have considered skills of inferring and predicting to more their thinking from within the text to beyond the text. Grade 5/6 students got creative with the texts that they were reading and developed personalised interpretations of a new cover for their focus text. Check out some of the wonderful designs, both digital and hard copy, developed below.
